In all seriousness I'm wondering if this was the plan all along, to wait until the end of the window, or if the clubs now know that fans will be let back in sooner rather than later, therefore there isn't so much uncertainty

Hope it's the latter for more than one reason.  I'd be interested to know if it was the installments that made it more palatable fkr the owners, changing forecasts (including upcoming matchday revenue), or if the more up to date financials allowed more flexibility.

What I don't understand is that if people are allowed in pubs and restaurants without masks and every where else with masks then why can't fans go to sporting events, obviously not in the same numbers as before but you could get about half the numbers in or at least a third.

      Hopefully in a few weeks.

Over here I'm sure liability enters into it. But just now fans are being allowed in (reduced numbers) for American football, but not for baseball. like a lot of things, there's a certain aspects of making it up as they go.

I'm pretty sure whoever you are talking about was right and that we will still end up balancing the books pretty much.

You are sure this person was right to say that we would not make another transfer, despite the transfer yesterday? Really?

i'm starting to think we were never really interested in Sarr or Lewis as primary targets :D

Just call the club, let the media shout everywhere that you are in tough negotiations with this and that club then turn around and contact your real primary target with a nice and tidy opportunity to replace Lewis and Norwich (or Sarr and Watford) and voila, you just created a little environment in which your primary target and club are a bit more inclined to finalise the deal because of the artificial competition you just created.

Okay, maybe I'm just putting too much thought into this and they really were our primary targets but we also had plan B's and had no time to fiddle around with relegated sides who want to cash in unrealistic prices for players who, ultimately, have been relegated and shouldn't be anywhere near a 40M+ price tag discussion. I mean, I like Sarr but it would be weird to pay 40-45$ to a relegated side.

Wasn't that long ago that we had a business expert among us sharing his wealth of knowledge on the post COVID-19 market, and how Liverpool FC were having to balance the books. That there would be no transfer incoming etc etc

      Well then...

Didn’t the club clearly state that if they wanted a player they would get him but all they were doing right now is being patient and also showing a little bit more care before spending- ie check 3 or 4 times before spending.

But it’s clearly when looking at the deals they are still balancing the books in regards the payment schedules for both signings

Perhaps they should replace Gary Linekar with this chap, Gary seems very keen on diversity as regards Sue Barker so I'm sure he'd be happy to lead by example and step down ;-)

Strange we haven't sold him by now.

last week we were expected to be delighted to hear that Gary ( highest paid presenter remember ) had signed a new 5 yr contract with BBC.

In the transfer market, Im more a wait till he`s got a Liverbird on his chest with picture sort of guy, Thiago with the big smile that sort of thing, and whatever is printed on the back pages is just pot luck for the journo`s ,as in, if they mention everybody sooner or later they get a hit.

Where as in reality they know heehaw about what we are up to ,the latest Fabinho esq signing Mr Jota yet again proves they know diddly about LFC and its dealings in the TM ,I`d be surprised if a CB came this window I think we are more into freeing up cash now with the 4, 5 or 6 that will have to move on ,I dont see us in any hurry to buy in that position, we will have tabs on who we want tho, whether its viable is another matter 1st 2nd or 3rd choice its all down to cash, value for money ,and not getting your pants taken down in the process, walking away if its not right being something that we excel at.

Building a dynasty takes time, is how its done, bit by bit , like the song says  " We are never gonna stop",   its constant, its ongoing,
       its Liverpool.

I haven't seen a lot of Jota. What astonishes me is that no one is complaining about the fee. Can someone explain me this?

Possibly down to how many years he had left on his Wolves contract.

For me I don't really care what the club spend on players as the owners have proven they'll only spend what we can afford and what they feel a player is worth.

You get it all the time with people complaining that we don't buy players then when we buy someone they don't want, or expect, for big money complain about the fee.

      Not for me.

So first people complain that we don’t spend enough on transfers then they should complain that we pay too much?

Normally happens when it's a player they don't like or rate. Or if it's on place of someone they wanted us to buy.

Did I complain somehow? I just find it strange that no one talks about the fee for a player who has to prove his worth. The 4th most expensive player after Alisson, Van Dijk and Keita. I'm just wondering if he's that good or it's a gamble.

Like I said in my post I'd say those of us not complaining either rate the player and don't care about the fee or trust the recruitment policy and don't care about the fee.

      Take your pick.

Like I said the club do not waste money on transfers.

Think that's just the going rate at the minute. 23 year old Portuguese international so 30-40M sounds about right

The likes of Ayoze Perez, Iwobi, Haller & Joelinton all went for a similar price. 5 or 6 years ago you could probably get a player like that for around £15M, fees have just went mad since the Neymar deal

Think it was clear towards the end of the season and start of this one that Jota was being phased out of the first team in favour of Podence. In that regard it’s maybe unusual that the fee is so high, however my guess is that we were happy to part with more cash in the long run if it meant paying in instalments.

For what it’s worth I honestly don’t care about the fee. I remember wondering why we paid so much for Mane then the same with Salah. Won’t be making the same mistake again.
