General LFC Transfer rumours/gossip thread

Word from Phillips is that he needs/wants game time so he can continue to get better. Sounded to me like an admission that his future may not be with us as a 5th choice. In that instance I think we definitely need another signing for backup. But it won't be anyone for any significant fee I can't imagine.

Well the club's social media team continue to mention him whenever he's playing for Turkey and recently when it was his birthday (I think its normal tho).

I dont see us going for Kabak because we already have 5 senior CBs. If Philips leaves thats 4 seniors, I dont really see a lot of teams out there with more than 4 senior center halves (maybe the teams playing a three men backline do but 4 CBs for a four man back line seems about right. Rhys can plug in here and there, maybe Davies and maybe Koumetio can also get minutes.

The Matip problem is more one you solve by selling Matip more than anything else really (at this point not renewing his contract). Buying extra players because one of your CBs is injury prone can sound attractive but it does not make a ton of sense as far as I'm concerned.

Also, from Kabak's point of view it makes no sense to make the move permanent. He would be 5th choice for at least a year and then he'll be 4th or 3rd at best. That does not sound like the type of minutes a guy his age and with his potential (or his agent) would be looking for.

Very good player though. Just find it amusing when we get linked with a player from UK or Ireland it tends to send some over the edge.

Corbally who used to post here was notorious for hating any suggestion of a British or Irish player and loving any link to a European player, no matter what the ability seemed to be.

Totally anonymous last night against a class midfield in Kovacic, Brozovic, and Modric. Just never seen it with him lacks the technical ability.

I'd love Mcginn here, ticks all the boxes for me, he may not be the best technically but just think walls and the ability to run through them, adds bite to the midfield, can deliver eye of the needle passes, chips in with a few goodies too and don't dismiss the fact he is Scottish, and we always do well with Scots in our side, we can chuck Grujic, Wilson, Shaq, or Divock in  as makeweights, as well as a few millions and a KitKat,

May as well try and twist a few arms and turn a head or two, Mcginn would jump ship if a club like Liverpool came calling ?

Agreed with this. I really like McGinnho and feel like he has the traits to succeed here at LFC and would fit pretty much right away in our system. I just dont think 50M makes sense tho.

He wasn't anonymous mate he was playing in the double pivot and did a decent job against class opposition - our problem was we sacrificed one in the middle to bolster the backline hence the middle was over-run.

He is a quality player and would do a grand job for us. Don't see it happening but would be a great addition.

In my view

McGinn looks a decent player, ok sure he was part of a midfield that was destroyed by a bunch of old men the other night but you can’t correlate international with club play.

He’s probably a level below what we should be aspiring for, if it was £20M he would be the perfect Milner replacement.

Im all for McGinn. He has the engine to be a box to box midfielder, and we need players like him if we are letting players like Thiago focus on the Offensive. McGinn doesnt have the ball control as Gini, nor the strength to hold the players off with his body but these things i feel that a better coach can make him improve on. Would be a good signing imo, we just need to get the price down.
