      https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/07/31/liverpool-consider-offloading-loris-karius-simon-mignolet-summer/

Says Klopp is open to selling both Mignolet AND Karius, and that the latter is a possible target for Bayer Leverkeusen.

      For real?

F'real. That's why i was surprised Ward was sold off as he could have easily been the #2 and be happy to do it. Selling Migs and Karius makes perfect sense as neither is going to be happy being #2, let alone #3. You could potentially sell Karius the bullshit idea that it'd be good for him to warm the bench for a year to "rebuild himself" but once you've permanently blocked his path as a starter, his future lies somewhere else. It's just a matter of when.

Leverkusen would be a good fit for Karius. A team in a league he's used to that is good enough to challenge for a spot at either CL or EL with some young quality players. They just sold off Leno to Arsenal so it looks like they'd have a need for a #1.

Must admit, I have been thinking that if we have no one by midweek, then that’s it for us and incomings. Bit disappointed to an extent because we are still lacking a reliable, non-injury prone CB partner for Virgil. Can’t help but feel that if anything costs us this season, it will be that. Too much faith being put in 4 players that have proved unreliable so far (Lovren, Matip, Klavan and Gomez) both form and fitness wise.

A Coutinho replacement would have been good but not as essential as the CB IMO.

      I agree.

Our first 11 isn't quite up to scratch just yet. It nearly is, but we're still a little bit short.

A cb is a priority for me too. Out of the ones we currently have then I personally prefer matip and I'd like to see him have a lengthy run alongside VVD, I think he could potentially be good enough in a non-chaotic back previously consisting of Mignolet and Moreno etc. It seems he's made of glass though so i hope we bring somebody in. It's essential for me. The other three Lovren Klavan and Gomez aren't good enough in my opinion. They all make too many mistakes.

We need a CAM too, especially with Ox being out. People who Keita will provide all the creativity quite clearly haven't seen him play or they don't understand the balance needed in the midfield.  Keita can be very attacking but he's not creative in a coutinho kind of way. Coutinho has that magic about him, the ability to create something out of nothing. Fekir has it too. Keita on the other hand is more about determination and drive. He will charge forward and carry the ball and against defensive teams that might not always be enough. We still need that spark and that bit of magic in the middle.

For what it's worth I think our business is done. I'd love FSG to back klopp that little bit more and make one or two other major signings. I just can't see it though and currently I don't think we have a strong enough team or squad to win the league. Still a couple short.

Are you seriously saying that Ox is more of a CAM than Keita is??? Then you clearly have never seen Keita play, he's not an out and out CAM in the mold of Coutinho but certainly every bit as creative and positive as Ox. In any case if we need a CAM then we have Shaquiri, I know he's more of a winger/forward similar to Mane/Salah but I'm certain he can play the CAM role and do a damned good job there.

I agree about the CB position but Lovren alongside VVD is pretty damned decent and Gomez is coming along very well and in Matip and Klavan we have adequate cover. Also remember that we now have a specialist DM to help them plus a top notch GK so all in all our defence should be pretty damned strong this season allowing our enhanced midfield and already superb attack to eviscerate opponents.

      I can't wait.

I've watched Keita plenty of times and I've been very vocal about him on here. From what you're saying, I don't think you've seen very much of him and you're just guessing because it doesn't make sense one bit.

Neither him or Ox are a traditional number 10 but if I had both available to select then I'd definitely play Ox in the 10 and Keita in the 8. So to answer your question, yes Ox is definitely more of a CAM than what Keita is.

Keita is very box to box. He isn't a number 10 and I'll be shocked if we play him there. If we don't sign anybody else this window then perhaps we will but I'll still be very surprised. It all depends on Jordan Henderson and whether klopp has the bottle to drop him.

My three at the moment would be Fabinho as the 6, Keita as the 8 and lallana as the 10 (until Ox is fit or we sign somebody else). That has far more balance than Fabinho as the 6, Henderson as the 8 and Keita as the 10. Klopp needs to drop Henderson and make Virgil captain. Personally, I think it's crucial.

You do know don't you that Keita actually prefers sitting? He feels his best strength is winning the ball back. Which it probably is actually. He's still very good at carrying the ball forward and he's not bloody bad at picking a pass out or having a shot either but he definitely isn't a natural number 10.

On the cb position I disagree that Lovren and VVD is still 'damned decent'. In Lovren csse, I also think it's irrelevant who is sitting infront of him or who is behind him in goal too (look at dzekos goal at anfield). I don't think he's good enough and he will continue to make mistakes and at some point it's going to really bite us on the arse but I've already voiced my concerns several times, we will just have to wait and see on that because it doesn't look like we're signing a cb any time soon so let's hope I'm wrong. I'm praying he has the season of his life and hopefully he will.

You are right about Keita. He has played more as a DM then am. Also he has more goals from DM position then am. With his work rate and ability, he is what people call box to box midfielder.

Joyce being a pr**k with that article, insinuating that Pulisic shouldn’t expect to start wherever he goes. I would think any player should want first team, starting football.

Also missing the point that while Pulisic’s output doesn’t justify 60m right now, if you don’t get him this summer, it may be even harder to get him down the road, his next price tag may be twice that.

We’d be smart to try and a swing buy and loan back deal with Dortmund, that way they get good value and have a season to find a replacement and we can get the player that Klopp wants coming in next year, with another year of starting for a big club under his belt, ready to challenge for a starting spot for us.

That buy and loan deal works well for us, but not sure about Dortmund. Seems like they are of a higher stature than to do that kind of deal.

I can't wait either. But he is correct that Ox is more tailored as a #10 than Keita. Keita will contribute to our attack as a #8. I think  you'll see in many matches we won't have a #10 per se, even though Bobby, the other forwards and the midfielder deployed furthest forward will serve that purpose to some degree.

In some matches Jürgen will select Henderson, Fabinho and Keita as the midfield, but I don't think Keita will be a #10 per se. That system of Jürgen's has too many nuances to fit into a box.

Fair enough but I'm still not sure I agree, neither Ox or Keita are really a #10 but I can't see much between them in being able to play that role if needed. I do however think Keita is the more versatile midfield player. Anyway its all a bit academic as Jürgen is more fluid than having rigid midfield positions

He wouldn’t be a bang on starter, but he surely would get a good deal of playing time and would be a great option that could basically come in to spell any of the front 3 or play as an AM as well.

So now Ojo is going on loan as well as all the others, anybody else think are attacking options are looking quite thin especially in the wide areas. Barring an injury free miracle season.   :-\

Probably means Ojo would not have been an option even if he had stayed, but do we not have enough midfielders already, I'm not sure its a huge problem is it?

Salah and Mane getting injured would now leave us with Shaqiri as our only cover for one of those positions, no way can Lallana or Solanke be considered acceptable starters out wide for a team with ambition to win silverware.

If you take out 2 top/wide players from any team in the league, that team will have problems.
      City without Sterling/Sane?
      Chelsea without Willian/Pedro
      Arsenal without Auba/Mikhitaryan
ManUtd without Sanchez or whoever else.

This presents a problem for everybody though, hence injuries will force a rethink of formation and a plan B.

True. But if Salah, Mane, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Firmino, and Solanke got injured, we'd be even worse off.

Clearly we need to purchase another 3 or 4 players just in case.

Firmino is not what I'm worried about it's the slots either side, we need wingers to cover not square pegs without the required pace to maintain our style of play. I hope this doesn't bite us in the ass "hope for the best prepare for the worst" its hubris to assume nothing can go wrong Wilson Ojo Woodburn and Kent one should have stayed.

We don't really play with wingers out front line is interchangeable  the true width comes from the likes of Trent and Robertson.
