I thought it would be interesting to compare our squad with the other title contenders to put the lack of activity in this window in some perspective.

GK: LIV > CHE > MCI > MU

United have the weakest starter but the best depth. Liverpool have the best goalie in the world. City and Chelsea are pretty even.

      Liverpool      Man City    Chelsea     United
      Alisson           Ederson      Mendy        De Gea
      Kelleher         Steffen        Kepa           Henderson
      Adrian            Carson       Bettinelli     Heaton

CB: LIV > MCI > MU > CHE

City and Liverpool have the best CB groups, but Liverpool get the edge as VVD is the best in the world, and because Konate>Ake. Chelsea's CB's are pretty overrated, and their depth isn't great considering that they play 3 at the back. United falls off pretty hard after Varane/Maguire.

      Liverpool      Man City    Chelsea        United
      Van Dijk          Dias            Christensen   Varane
      Matip              Laporte       Rudiger         Maguire
      Gomez            Stones         T. Silva          Lindelof
      Konate            Ake               Sarr               Bailly
      Phillips            Sandler      Chalobah       P. Jones

RB: MCI > CHE > LIV > MU

City and Chelsea probably edge this one as they have better depth than Liverpool, though it feels harsh given that Trent is the best RB in the league when on form.

      Liverpool      Man City      Chelsea        United
      Trent               Walker          Azpilizueta    Wan-Bissaka
      Neco               Cancelo         R. James        Dalot

LB: LIV > CHE > MU > MCI

Liverpool easily have the best LB tandem. Chelsea have a better tandem than United but Shaw is arguably better than both Chelsea LB's. Man City have a problem at LB given the Mendy situation.

      Liverpool      Man City      Chelsea     United
      Robertson      Zinchenko     Alonso       Shaw
      Tsimikas          Mendy          Chilwell      Telles

DM: CHE > LIV > MCI > MU

Fabinho is arguably the world's best DM, but given the seasons Kante and Jorginho just had they get the edge. United are way behind in this position.

      Liverpool      Man City         Chelsea     United
      Fabinho          Fernandinho    Kante        McTominay
      Henderson      Rodri                Jorginho    Matic

      CM/AM: MCI > CHE > LIV > MU

Man City aren't very deep in CM/AM but DeBruyne really tips the scales. Chelsea are looking very strong in this position too. Our options are decent, but so much hinges on fitness and young players developing. United are very top-heavy but arguably the impact of Pogba/Fernandes could have their group rated ahead of Liverpool.

      Liverpool      Man City       Chelsea         United
      Thiago           De Bruyne       Havertz         Pogba
      Keita              Gundogan        Mount          Fernandes
      Ox                  B. Silva              Kovacic         Fred
      Milner                                       Saul              van de Beek
      Jones                                       L-Cheek        Mata
      Elliott                                       Barkley

RW LIV > MCI > MU > CHE

I would give the edge to Liverpool even with weaker depth as Salah is one of the best forwards in the game, but City's depth is much better. Sancho still has to prove himself in the PL.

      Liverpool      Man City      Chelsea     United
      Salah               Mahrez         Pulisic        Sancho
      Minamino       Foden           Ziyech       Greenwood
                                                                        Lingard

LW: MCI > MU > LIV > CHE

City have easily the best LW tandem. I've given Rashford/Martial the edge as Mane hasn't been on form for a while, and Origi is a worse backup. Werner hasn't impressed, at least not yet.

      Liverpool      Man City      Chelsea        United
      Mane              Sterling          Werner         Rashford
      Origi               Grealish          H-Odoi         Martial

ST: MU > CHE > LIV > MCI

This is a tricky one to judge. I would say that it's a tie across the board but to avoid that I would give Ronaldo the edge (though he has a lot to prove at 36 in the PL). Lukaku is a guarantee of 20-25 goals in that Chelsea team so I'll give Chelsea 2nd. I wouldn't trade Firmino/Jota for Jesus/Torres, and it's telling that City wanted to buy Kane as they do lack a natural CF.

      Liverpool      Man City      Chelsea     United
      Firmino           G. Jesus        Lukaku       Ronaldo
      Jota                  Torres                               Cavani

With 4 points for "1st place", 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd, and 1 point for 4th... the teams stack up as follows:

      Liverpool 27
      Man City 24
      Chelsea  22
      United   17

There you have it folks, Liverpool officially have the best squad in the league. :D

      Forgot about him myself!

Can't see him playing a single minute this season but it is the last year of his contract. Can only guess he wants to sit this season out an pick up one final pay packet off us, as I can't see anybody else paying him close to what he's earning here. Will probably end up in playing in a second tier somewhere next season

What have they actually promised us though?

That post is obviously in fuelled solely by the lack of activity in the transfer market - but I don't remember anybody from FSG ever coming out and making making bold promises in terms of signings. From what I recall they've been pretty open about how they're going to operate in the market (rightly or wrongly) from the off

Well they did sign the best manager in the world and since won the CL and PL so they've done something right.

Would have liked a forward signing but apart from that the squad is strong and difficult to improve on.

This account has been stirring sh*t all summer long. They try to look professional yet every couple of days they would tweet some sh*t that is clearly aimed at the FSG crowd in order to stir sh*t up and receive as many comments, likes and retweets as possible. Nice to see they've finally come out and are not trying to act like they are a serious account anymore.

Little example of what they typically do:

1-Tweet about a transfer rumour that has no backing from any of the LFC reliable guys (Peace, Reddy, Joyce, etc). Basically just another made up rumour from one of the papers in England, Spain or Germany who know jack sh*t about LFC.

2- The same player signs elsewhere.

3- They tweet about about this other team signing the player saying they signed ''our target/LFC's target'' making it sound like we wanted the player but were not willing to pay the price or didn't move fast enough to get the deal done.

4- Sit back and watch the FSG OUT crowd go crazy (and also their followers, likes and retweets numbers go up)

Lots of accounts like that. Its paradoxal narratives all being pushed at once. We are, simultaneously ''not looking to bring anyone in'' and we should be angry about it but we also got beaten to the Saul transfer. We are not looking to sign anybody yet we somehow lost the battle to Wolves for the signing of ''our target'' Renato Sanches. So which one is it? Are we looking to sign players but didn't do a good job negotiating those transfers or are we being skinflints who are ''not looking to do any business''?

Thank god the window is shut. I've seen and read enough craziness over the past few weeks.
      Isaac!

This is a stronger team and a stronger squad than than one which got 99 points and won the CL. Why do you think Klopp is lying? How can we attract the best youth talent if we don't leave space for them to compete with the first team squad? What happens to Elliot, to Kaide Gordon? How do you know that Taki isn't killing everyone in training every week, that's he's not made big developments in acclimatising? We don't, we're on the outside and we don't have privelidged information. Have some belief in Klopp and the guys behind the scenes that they know what they're doing. They've given us damn good reason to.

Last season was an outlier for reasons so obvious it's insulting to expound.

Think what you're referring to might be an open letter he penned to supporters a couple of years after the takeover. Don't recall him mentioning anything about having the resources at the time, but I think he did say he would have no problem in sanctioning deals to compete with the big boys (which to be fair, he has on occasions). If I remember though the general gist of the whole letter was about living within our means and not saddling the club with debt by making massive, finger in the wind signings and instead being astute in the market

Very disappointing, sh*te window with all our competitors strengthening.

      Absolutely embarrassing

The reality is that we couldn't add anyone to the CL squad without Origi going out, and he has a contract which is his right to uphold without moving on. Klopp could leave him out of the CL and PL squads, but it doesn't make financial sense to have a player like Origi on the books and leaving him out of the squad entirely, - particularly as Phillips will already likely be left out of the CL squad. The squad is full.

If anything this situation with Origi is a good example of why you don't bring in players for the sake of it out of desperation who then only end up taking valuable wages and a squad place. For instance, imagine if we'd have signed an average CB in January who Klopp didn't really want long-term - we'd now be stuck with that player in the squad in a difficult market to move players on.

Yes, our competitors have strengthened, but they all still have MUCH bigger holes in their squads than we do.

Our biggest weakness is our 5th choice forward, followed by limited cover at RB. Neither of which are particularly big concerns relatively speaking.

Man City failed to sign a CF which they absolutely needed to do after Aguero left, and also failed to address the gaping hole at LB given the Mendy situation, and are now left with just Zinchenko at LB. They lost out to PSG for Mendes from Sporting today.

Chelsea strengthened well with Lukaku and Saul, but they failed to address the CB position which is clearly the biggest weakness in their squad, not only quality wise but also in terms of numbers. They missed out on Kounde today.

United added Sancho, Varane, and Ronaldo, but they still have Fred/McTominay/Matic in the engine room which is pretty poor relative to Liverpool/City/Chelsea. We've also seen how the next shiny toy fades into obscurity with them, such as Falcao, Di Maria, Martial, and many more I'm forgetting, so there's no guarantee that their moves work out. Ronaldo ruined the way Juventus played and may have a similar detrimental effect on United.

Some people are so quick to forget how we spent decades watching our best players leaving the club, like Owen, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez, Coutinho, etc. It speaks volumes that the club is now in a position that world class players like Van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, etc have wanted to stay for the duration of their careers. FSG have clearly done something right.

That isn't to say that they're completely blameless, and I too would have liked an upgrade on Origi this week, but to call for "FSG out" is pretty out of touch given where the club was when they took over compared to where the club is now.

Origi ended up staying. Same for Karius.

Rhys Williams signed an extension and went on loan to Swansea.

Phillips signed an extension and will stay as 5th CB.

Our squad until at least January is thus as follows:

                             Alisson
                            Kelleher
                             Adrian
                             Karius

      TAA           Matip      Van Dijk     Robertson
      Williams  Gomez    Konate       Tsimikas
                        Phillips

                           Fabinho
                         Henderson

                 Thiago               Keita
                    Ox                  Milner
                 Elliott                 Jones

      Salah            Firmino             Mane
