If Sturridge is a done deal, i'd rather get Wesley in now, and Ince, if at all, in the summer. We need a bit more guile and cunning in the mid field.
 We've got enough imagination, Downing and Henderson Imagine they are decent players.

Personally I think he will go to AC Milan. They both use the same stadium and to help with wages they can look at rent agreements, or so I heard from a friend who knows a lot more about this than me. Im dubious about that - but I cant see us paying a lot. Perhaps a deal like Joe Cole will happen, in that case we pay Inter £9 Million and they give it to him as a subsidised wages. This could work, allowing him to be on circa £120,000 a week along with the top earners and still get cash from Inter lump sum or what ever.

I imagine that when Gerrard signs his new contract he will get a large signing on fee too, as will most players so I cant see it upseting everyone! Still,  am dubious but remain hopeful.

If Inter are that desperate to have him off his wage bill then maybe they could end up letting him go for potentially just a couple of million, maybe even less. If we were able to agree a very low fee, possibly even a free then why not pay him the wage he would want? Would have saved a load of money on actually getting him signed in the first place.

I am praying this is true, Sneijder would allow us to have a best 11 that can play with anyone in the world and one of the best groups of youngsters pushing on, it would be just like old days.

And I think that it is very possible, taking in the Sturridge deal and Cole buy out by my math leaves enough money to do this even at his pay rate. Couldn't do much else mind you, but still a great opportunity for the club, he is so amazing. Heck, I would do it just to see Gerrard excited again, that alone is worth the ticket.

I understand we are trying to cut the wage bill but if we want to qualify for CL and become top contenders in Europe again we need top quality players. They aren't going to sign at 80,000 per week. We are going to have to be comfortable with signing players at higher wages because quality and talent doesn't come cheap nowadays.

This is a dumb thread. Has anyone been paying attention to the financial goings on at the club? If this lad ever plays for LFC it'll be on loan (with them paying at least 120k of his astromical wages) or when he's 35.

If Joe Cole goes that leaves us with 90,000 a week less of a wage bill than what we have now, that's a huge chunk of his wages right there.

Despite the fact the club are rumoured to be about to pay Cole close to £3 million (45k a week) to leave?

The Joe Cole situation simply highlights why this is EXTEMELY unlikely to happen. 29 year old player, has lost his form, no sell on value and on wages that more than double our highest earner and you really think we might buy this lad?

Reported Budget - 40 million
Savings - Cole - 3 million (as calculated above)
Spent - 13 million (includes Sturridges wages for the rest of the season)
Available - 30 million

Reported 10 million purchase
200,000 x 18 weeks = 3.6 million
purchase cost 13.6

remaining 16.4 million pounds

easily done with plenty left over to add a LB and Ince if we actually want him

By who? Rodgers hasn't talked like a man with anything like that sort of budget.

Also, Sneider has already dismissed the initial reports as having nothing in them. I like the player, and he'd fit the system BUT i think you guys are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Just say we did get him and paid those wages you've then got a lad who is on double the money of our best player. 200k is way out of our league. The owners won't go anywhere near any player who demands close to that sort of money or at that age. They may loosen the strong s if we're a regualr in the champions league but we're still a way away from that at the moment.
