      Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)
      Dec 30, 2012 11:48:20 pm
I'd feel a bit bad if we announce a signing without having a rumour thread for the player beforehand so here goes:

      http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/19/chelsea-daniel-sturridge-liverpool
      http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20828488
      http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/8352661/Daniel-Sturridge-undergoes-medical-at-Liverpool-ahead-of-move-from-Chelsea

A reported 12 million pounds signing fee and 60,000 per week wages.

I think this is a good coup. Hes not the "proven" striker i would have wanted but hes definitely got a lot of potential and I can see him scoring close to 20 next season. A decent price for a lad with some decent prospects.

Overall i definitely think a step in the right direction and finally we weren't shafted for a transfer fee.

I like him, I'd expect him to chip in with at least 7 goals by the end of the season.

Also think it's a good signing and while I believe he'll mostly play as the right forward in a 4-3-3, he can also operate as the main striker.

Would he be cup tied for the Europa League?

Think it's a poor signing myself, especially with Chelsea set to sign a better, proven striker for 5m less.

Hope he surprises me though, really need to add more firepower to the front three.

I'm with you on this one so far. Ba has proven that the knee isn't as much of an issue as most make it out to be but I think that Rodgers prefers Sturridge due to his flexibility in being able to play anywhere in the forward line whereas Ba struggles anywhere but the middle.

Don't think Rodgers' preference in this matter is even relevant, we can't compete with Chelsea right now for players. Being able to pick up Demba Ba for that cheap is the benefit they have as a club that's currently in better circumstances than us.

I think he will be because Suarez was when he came from Ajax, but I can't remember if Ajax played in the CL or Europa League that year.

He'd be cup tied because Chelsea are playing in the Europa League too now.

I think they were the same as Chelsea now, started in the Champions League but got knocked out into the Europa League after the group stages.

I'd like to think he'll want to prove himself - professional pride.

10 Premiership Goals for us for the remainder of the season - well its good to be optimistic!!

      Have to disagree with this.
I think Sturridge is far better suited to our style of play.
He can play anywhere up front & he has much more pace than Ba.
Ba in my opinion is too similar to Carroll in fact he's not as good as Carroll.
He does get injured less tho'

If you want Ba you might as well of continued with big Andy..

Personally I think this is going to be a great bit of business for us...

I can see him coming here and and banging in a shed load - good finisher and god knows we need that. Very highly rated by Chav fans - and players, but with Torres and before him Drogba in the side he was never going to get a look in. Chuffed to peices!

Any chance of a last minute hitch so it falls through and the scouts will be forced to leave the country

Sturridge sure has alot to prove and i,m hoping he can do it for us. 12mill does,nt really sound that bad considering we payed about 10.5 for Borini, who is another one that has something to prove. I,m just preying that we have a better second half to the season. If we get to 4th then the transfers would have payed off.

Ba isn't as good as Carroll? :D Deary me.

Ba's quicker, better finisher, better header of the ball, better passer and also better with the ball at his feet.

The fact that Sturridge can play out wide as well as in the middle doesn't bother me as I'd much rather sign an out and out striker and move Suarez to a free role starting on the right so that Johnson can provide the width. However I don't think we will go down the route which is why we are looking at wide forwards.

I think Sturride will do alright here.

Was there better available out there for less money ?

      Of course there was.

But Sturridge is not too shabby as a player himself.

If he slots straight into the team and links up well with Suarez and bags himself a handful of goals, £12m will look a snip.

Would I have signed him ?

      Not immediately.

But not because I don't think he's a decent player.

But because we have a lot of holes in the squad and a lack of depth.

I'd have tried to be prudent and looked at Ba, Holtby and Llorente and to see if I could snap all three up for the reported £20m budget.

I don't think i look silly at all friend i think you do. IMO Andy Carroll is a far better centre forward than Demba Ba.

Sure he's done well at Newcastle for the last year but if you ask any geordie who they would rather have i think
you'll find that 99% of them will say Carroll. TBH i'd rather have Carroll back if fit than Ba

You my friend should think before you post making yourself look like a pompous self righteous plank
