City is definitely better up front, as in they have more quality depth that we don't, but we are better defensively. Their back line and goalie were vastly overrated last season because most PL teams were afraid to attack them and leave space behind them but when they met an attacking team like us they were shown to be very average.

This is where Sturridge comes in. When we thought of adding depth at forward and attacking midfielder for the upcoming season everyone thought of doing that through a transfer, but no one, myself included, saw Sturridge service that purpose. If he can stay relatively healthy (Aguero is no iron man himself) he would be an amazing option for the team and one that would really close that gap with City in being able to rest or sub in players without much drop in quality, if any.

They weren't afraid to attack them, they just couldn't get the ball off them. I've no idea what city's average possssion stats were last season but I'd guess it was over 70.

Klopp is the master on the pressing game. We are also very fit, probably the fittest team in the league. Teams like city are made for us (despite their obvious quality) which is why we beat them 3 times last season and why we've struggled against united for example who have always given us the ball but parked the bus.

Defending isn't just about making tackles or keeping shape. Maintaining  possession is a massive part of it and that's what pep is the master of and it's something actually that we need to improve on, knowing when to kill the game down with the ball even if it's a bore fest for 10 minutes. At the end of the day, if you have the ball then the other team can't score.  They defended much better than what we did last season.

I think you're kidding yourself on Sturridge. I'm a massive fan of Sturridge and I've argued several times that he should be in our first 11 on this forum in the past. He's looked good in pre season but when it really matters in competitive games he has shown repeatedly that he is out of place in a klopp team.  It's a lovely idea that he's going to come back and rediscover the form he had in the nearly season with Brendan, but it's unrealistic.  He's injury prone and doesn't suit our style. I hope he proves me wrong, but he's done nothing since klopp has come in to suggest he will, even these half a dozen or so games in pre season.

He's been finished for two years due to injury. Anyone who thinks he can make it now are deluded. Sell sell sell, "well at least I would"  :D Unfortunately injury is only round the corner when he plays a competitive game or two.

I'm praying again this season for Danny. He's not going to be a regular starter now but if he stays fit all season one thing he is an option from the bench. If we kill off a game we can rest Bobby, Mané or salah as Danny can play anywhere along that front 3. I'd even be tempted not to start him in the cup games. 10 or 20 minute appearances and we could keep him fit and even with 10 or 20 minute appearances Danny can score or create a goal out of nothing. If he stays fit he could be very important to us.

Sorry lads, I refuse to get my hopes up on Danny.

That's my feeling on it as well, glad to see him scoring in pre-season and in his best interest if he has a productive season he can get one more big contract (wither it is with us or someone else) before his football career is over. I am huge Danny fan but I have been hurt too many times before.

Still better than you banging on for much of last season that we break up the Salah, Mane and Firmino axis to accommodate Sturridge. And then there were your tears into your alphabetti spaghetti when we sent him on loan to West Brom.

Schoolboy type obsessions like yours over Sturridge shouldn't last this long.

Unfortunately you can only speak with the benefit of experience, the experience we all went through when Studge came back from another injury promising the world but when push came to shove he went down.

Had to get back and say even with the issues the memories of his first two seasons with us make me wish he could recapture that magic again.

Sentiment apart he can only possibly hope for game time in the Cups and as a sub unless he shows Jürgen just how determined he is to take this opportunity.
I cant imagine any Liverpool supporter not wanting to see Danny back to his very best because he was just outstanding then .

Looks a lot beefier these days, and is adding more elements to his game, no longer relying on sitting on the defenders shoulder, dropping deeper, picking passes.

If he can get past the idea that every little twinge means he has to go straight to the treatment table, then he could play a big part this season, although more than likely the odd start, and most appearances coming off the bench.

It's the last year of his contract, and he's said he's confident he can get a new deal, so if he stays fit, who knows.
(It will definitely be a coincidence if he plays through pain while trying to get a new deal ;)  )

Nothing to do with being a United fan. Opinion is based on facts just like many Liverpool fans agree he's not worth taking the risk. His ability as a striker not in doubt when he's fit.

What's the risk in keeping a player we already own in our squad though?

Wages, constant surgery/doctors fees. No stilability in team and just total frustration as a fan. Can't even see him scoring 10 goals. Said time and time again his quality is there for all to see but you just know when he gets tackled you cringe at the thought how long is he out this time. Owners should cash in soon as possible.

So today the man netted his 64th Liverpool goal, surpassing John Aldridge's 63.

That is some f**king achievement when you consider how highly Aldo is rated by those who were lucky enough to see him play.
