Wishing for a speedy recovery, it's such a joy to see him glide on the pitch for us. This really proves to be the biggest opportunity for Origi to show his worth and talent (to be fair, he showed plenty at the end of last season), lets hope he delivers!

Better than I feared and the games he's missing are all winnable without him, only tricky ones might be bitters and Citeh.

I realise it is the derby but our squad, with or without Coutinho, only needs to take one glance at a team with utter tripe like Jagielka and co and think 'we should batter these'. A derby or not, that lot are not intimidating in the slightest, so to not win there would be a major gripe for me.

I think they're an atrocious, ageing side - so much to the extent that even Man Utd should beat them next weekend (though Everton almost always willingly bend over to even a sh*t Man Utd, such is their small team mentality).  :f_tongueincheek:

Sort of player who can grab you a 1-0 win when you're playing bad with a moment of magic. Will be tough without him, time for others to step up.

Do you think we'll see a change of formation now with Coutinho being out?

There's no immediate obvious LM to come in to that formation and do the job Coutinho does. Unless we put Firmino out there and Sturridge down the centre?

Or Lallana on the left, Sturridge in the centre and Firmino in behind.

It will be interesting to see what Klopp does now

Firmino out wide and Origi in the middle for now as Studge aint fit and if he does a good job Studge may find it even harder to get in when he's ready.

Woodburn plays there for the 23s and I think Ojo is back training again too.

We will cope without him. We have good enough depth.

I really hope we don't move Bob out left. He isn't that type of player.

I think we'll see Gini move out to the left before we see Bob move out there.

Origi cutting in from the left with his pace?

      Definitely another option.

Maybe depends if Lallana is fit. If not, then Gini slots back in midfield and Origi on the left.

He came out and said that's where he likes to play so he can cut in. So stick him there and let him do his magic.

Philippe Coutinho targeting return for Manchester City clash

      David Lynch @LynchMDavid

Philippe Coutinho has revealed he is targeting Liverpool's meeting with Manchester City on New Year's Eve for his return to action.

The Brazilian has been on the sidelines since sustaining an ankle injury during the Reds' 2-0 win over Sunderland at Anfield late last month.

But, with his recovery progressing well, Coutinho is aiming to be back in time for the upcoming Premier League clash with Pep Guardiola's side.

"This is still my hope - to return for this game," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"The rehab is going really well. I can now walk without crutches and I am working well with the medical team. So I'm pleased with how I am recovering."

Coutinho's injury came at an unfortunate time for a player who had started the season in fine form for both club and country.

While obviously frustrated to be facing a lay-off, though, the No.10 was relieved not to be ruled out for longer.

"Straight after the game, when I first saw the pictures and videos of my injury, I was a little scared," he continued.

"But after the scans, of course it was bad, but not as bad as it could have been. I am happy, as it could have been a lot worse."

The Reds have dropped points in their last two games in the absence of Coutinho - losing to Bournemouth on the south coast and being held to a home draw by West Ham United.

But the 24-year-old is confident his teammates can bounce back in the coming fixtures without his assistance.

"Obviously I have been very frustrated, because like any player who is injured, it is tough to watch rather than play and help the team," he added.

"The last game was a draw and not the result we wanted, but the team still has great quality and I am certain in the next game we will come back stronger.

      Offal.

"Liverpool will offer Philippe Coutinho a new deal worth £150,000 a week amid fresh interest from Man City. The new deal likely to contain a clause stipulating that any club wanting to buy him will have to break whatever the current world transfer record is (Liverpool Echo)"

Have read this, but not sure how true (break record clause), or whether Cou would even sign it.
Nice money though, wonder how much he's on right now...

If he's not on that money already, it's a stupid way for the club to save a buck. Keep our best players happy and on competitive wages ffs.

This is true, regarding clauses I guess it's just a way of clubs protecting there investment & they are not just players these days they are an asset in every sense of the word.

It's a miracle we are able to compete with the big boys if you believe the theory that finishing position is directly related to wages.

He signed that contract last year and had no issues with it at the time.

Oh yeah defiantly, however it's fair at this point or sometime close that he gets another raise? He's improved since last year, certainly in terms of consistency

I was more suprised that a keeper we brought in as no.1 is on 15k a week whether or not he agreed to sign it

      Just an observation
