Ratio of Success: Trophies per Managerial Career
      Feb 07, 2013 04:54:51 pm
I’ve often heard how Unlce Bob had a better ratio of success when compared to any other manager in the English top flight, but I’d never seen how the trophy count stood. So I put Bob Paisley’s managerial tenure of 9 years, side by side with ferguson’s 26 years.

In other words, I took Paisley’s record and ‘stretched’ his years as manager, to match that of fergie’s. Made for some interesting reading.

      Alex Ferguson over 26 years
      2 European Cups
      12 League Titles
      5 FA Cups
      4 League Cups
      1 UEFA Cups
      10 Charity/Community Shields

      Total 34

      Bob Paisley over 27 years
      9 European Cups
      18 League titles
0 FA Cups (quite bizarre this one)
      9 League Cups
3 UEFA Cups (can hardly blame Bob, we hardly ever finished low enough to qualify)
      18 Charity/Community Shields

      Total 57

I know it isn’t an exact science, but it does put into perspective, what an absolute awesome manager Bob Paisley was. And as far as success to longevity ratios are concerned that’s one record fergie won’t be shifting anytime soon. Perhaps if he lived until he was 150.

      Perhaps.

      The defence rests your honour

EDIT: Bob was obviously a much nicer human being as well.

His record in his time as manager stands out against anybody, second to none

You dont have to triple everything. What he achieved in just 9 years is quite ridiculous

Yes well done Bob,but I suppose if you were to put the ratio on a percentage basis Joe Fagan would be above Ferguson.

The difference between Bob,Joe and Ferguson is Bob and Joe proved you do not have to be an arsehole to be a success.

If you could qualify for Europe back then as easily as you can now then Bob would at least doubled his tally of European cups. Fergie doesn't come close to the man, no matter what anyone says, as a man or a manager.

      Brill thread this.

Bob had humility which our friend from down the East Lancs has no comprehension of.

Lovely thread.....quite refreshing to remember two wonderful football managers of our great club. Everything I love in football was opitimised by these two. Everything I detest has been created by the other one.

      Would he Bill?

Wouldn't he, on this scale, have 39 trophies? He won three trophies in two years - would of been four had the Heysel disaster never happened.

I can't argue with those figures Billy nor should I,the thing that saddens me is that Ferguson is even  compared to our 3 maestros,Bill,Bob and Joe.

Why do you think Ferguson hangs on year after year. He can't bare the thought that he is clearly second best to Bob. He doesn't seem to comprehend the enormous time scale of his achievments compared to Bob, so doesn't realise he will never be able to achieve equality.
