That looks very lightweight in midfield and up front, not sure it's enough to get the result we need tonight.

I'd much prefer to see Lucas playing either with Allen or in place of him.

Key men for them are Witsel and Hulk.

Witsel could potentially boss Allen out of the game. Jose will need to be on his game, but luckily for us he has the strength and pace to match that of Hulk. (Hopefully).

I wonder has Brendan thought that Skrtel going back to his old club might get a performance out of him and play himself into a bit of form.

Agree with both. It's probably a case of:

      Allen    Gerrard
         Henderson

In midfield. Which is ok, what with Gerrard/Allen being the pairing we had for the majority of the season, but I do fear that kind of a pairing on the road will be problematic. Here's to hoping Joe regains that early season form because I think we're going to need it.

As a side note, a wee bit disappointed Assaidi isn't in the squad at all. Even if his game isn't rated by Brendan -- and it appears that way -- bringing his pace on vs tired legs could cause problems.

Looking forward to this, hope we can make some amends for Monday.
Hearing that there's been some trouble last night and bits throughout the day, seems like some of their supporters are looking to fight. Hope everyone stays safe and there is no trouble at the game.
Hope that team can cope, they've got some really good players. We certainly need a performance.

It's the strongest team we can field with the exception of Lucas. No surprise Agger isn't in the squad given his recent form.

Lucas should have played, or Allen should have partnered him. Not just Allen on his own. Lot of pressure on Gerrard to defend well now.

      Agree.

If Allen is playing I'd much rather have seen ateam like Diego posted earlier today.

I'd imagine Gerrard will be our deepest midfielder tonight.

The good thing is this is their first game in the new year, yes? Hopefully they won't be match fit.

Tut tut, such negativity from some of you seasoned supporters, ye who have little faith, I believe we will get something out of this leg, we played well against the baggies just never took our chances, had we, we would have a different feel to this game, Zenit are a good side and will cause probs but so will we, my head says 1-1 but in my heart 1-2, COYR, YNWA

Bringing Allen back for this is going to be tough for him, definitely think Lucas was a must to start and surprised to see him left out of the XI. Would of been a toss up between Sterling or Borini for Sturridge's place, I would of personally gone with Borini because his work ethic is slightly better and I would of personally shielded Raheem from the abuse he could suffer. (I know that shouldn't be an issue but we all know it is.)

I had Borini in my side as well Luke.

Anyway hope the lads selected do the business and get the support they deserve in here tonight.
