We showed a lot of character today especially luis, the reds seem to be getting lucky nbreaks when we need them. About time we beat spurs real gutsy win well done reds.

On the pitch, it appears that we didn't performed well enough as we came up against a very good side and spurs fan may say the same about us. They pressed and pinned us back to our box and I'm glad that we were able to manoeuvre ourselves out of those tight situations. We ddn't panicked and we didn't give away possession at dangerous positions in doing so. If we had a Masch or Didi in our side now I'd believe spurs would have looked very average.

I'd say we performed very well and I don't expect us to outplay spurs. Has to give the MOTM to Stevie, most attacks started from him and his driving runs and zig-zagging all over the pitch. At 31, can't ask for anything more from him. He single-handedly won us the penalty and scored the goal. In the end, I'd say Stevie wanted it more than many of our lads and spurs.

However, we really needed some serious reinforcement in defence for next season and a world class DM will be very helpful.

      Overall assessment  :-

Jones - did reasonably well but got to admit he's no Pepe. Ball distribution could be better. Didn't look comfortable on the ball.
Agger -  Out muscled in defence and gave spurs too much space and time on the ball. Only put in those early tackles and harassed spurs players in the second half. How I wish he could do the same in every game for 90 mins plus injury time. By doing just that. we could see spurs were rattled.
Enrique - average game shouldn't have given bale that much space and time to put in those crosses.
Johnson - had a poor game, out muscled in defence with numerous misplaced passes and lost possession on many occasions.
Carra - did his best and can't ask for more.
Lucas  -  average game, shouldn't have started against a fast spurs attacking line. Many times left chasing shadows with misplaced passes.
Countinho - Did very well. It's those defence splitting passes that we have been missing all these years and he has some special skills. Lost a bit of momentum towards later part of the game. I'm sure he'll improve on his fitness and toughened up as we move along.
Downing - form throughout the game like an alternating current wave. Played better towards the later part of the 2nd half. But credit to him for scoring a goal.
Stevie - not much else to say except I've voted him the MOTM.
Allen -  Did very well when he came on and harrassed spurs to no end. He looked tougher and tougher and i can only see improvement in him.
Hendo  - Did his job well enough to close down those spaces.
Sturridge  -  Average game but needs to be more clinical with his shooting and team up better with Suarez.
Suarez - buzzing non-stop and scored a world class goal but needs greater awareness of where sturridge is inside the box to create better scoring opportunities.

Some may not agree to my assessment.

Well I enjoyed that match, though we went behind it was good to see the fight and determination in the lads. The only concern I had was when we started backpassing to Brad Jones,he seemed quite unsure of himself at times. The only thing that matters is we got the right result,3 points and the confidence is back at Anfield,Well done the MIGHTY REDS.Re backpassing to the goalie it appears to be the scourge of the E.P.L. so many clubs use this system and the poor old goalie finds himself under needless pressure.

      This ALL DAY LONG, IMO!
Performances really don't matter if the result is the right one, I'm absolutely buzzing at the moment (I'm a school bus escort and 51yr old BUT I was at the bus stop this morning with my LFC shirt, scarf and Socks on waiting for the Manc and Chav kids to arrive  ;D !)

I was a regular on the kop in the 70s and always made an extra effort to get to the Spurs games. The big interest for me, was that Spurs hadn't won at Anfield for 60 Years. I think in about 1974, Not 100%, need to check the stats when i've got more time. I think that went to about 71 years before they managed a win, but I thought it would never end. Was well dissapointed at the time, but memories like that, make days like today, even more enjoyable, and I can't wait for next season already, to start that build up once again.  ;D

I too was a regular in the late sixties.

First game I was ever taken to was at Portman Road of all places.
Was the Spurs in 62 aged 10. Standing on a box.
That was an awesome team to include Haynes ,White, Blanchflower, Smith, Mackay  Jones and of course Jimmy Greaves.
Never had any gripe against them unlike the Arse in May 89 and 71 Cup final.

Its was a big day yesterday. A giant leap forward which we don't want to undo with anymore banana skins.

Some may not agree to my assessment.
I fully agree with everything apart from this, and only to a lesser extent. I don't think yesterday was about his lack of clinical finishing. I think his lack of form yesterday was more to do with coming back not fully fit. His finishing has been brilliant since he's been here. But yesterday, he just lacked fitness in my opinion.

In short, I'm not worried at all about his lack of finishing because his lack of finishing is not something to worry about

I also agree that Suarez needs to be more aware of where Sturridge is, and vice versa

Absolutely buzzing here at work!...wearing my LFC hoodie & my stupid permanent grin, it may take a while for this effect to wear off but who cares!...loving it!

Some of the mancs here at work, keeping it low after they threw away their match but have begrudgingly acknowledged that it was a good win for us.

Also parity restored in Liverpool at last...above them bitters!...they are gonna fall away now to the bottom ten as WBA & Swansea, etc. will overtake them too in the next few weeks.

I gave Downing my MOTM as deserved it & I bet he loved that chant from the kop about him & Bale.

Suarez, what can I say?...take a bow, son!...you are truly one of the finest players ever to play for LFC & may we share in your dream in taking LFC to the top where we belong as it won't be far off! YWNA!

Radio 5 sh*t stirring about the penalty, spurs fans from Norfolk and San Francisco bleating that Bale doesn't get any protection and that Stevie should have been sent off..music to my ears. Parker and Dembele are good players but a pair of cu*ts.

It makes it that much sweeter that it was against Spurs.

The sh*te AVL was saying about ending our season

Their much talked about run of wins

The fact they have been a bogey team

The way we totally outplayed them earlier this season.

      On to the next one.

Loved it, IMO Spurs were the better team and we won. Hope we can start doing it regularly, being second best and still winning

Next thing I want us to do is win ugly, then we will have a team that could win the league

Missed the game yesterday as I was working.

Got the update from here, but made my fatal mistake of checking the score on the BBC site and bingo! They score. bas**rds. And again! Oh well, at least my prediction will be correct. (You see I was quite worried about this game!).

      Then WTF, DOWNING!

Kept my head down, and came back after the final whistle! BUZZING AND SHOCKED.

Not only had we taken the lead, lost it to go behind, but came back and won with a pen! From a foul on Suarez! (Just like the scum do week in week out, may I add).

Fantastic. Above the BS too, for the 1st time in ages, their time to play catch up, that is going to a huge game.

As for Bale (from the MOTD2 highlights) what a whinging, diving, crying, dirty little sh*t. Perfect for the scum. He'd fit right in there.

As for MOTD, the Manchester based programme doing their usual hatchet job on Suarez in the post match analysis. Well piss right off, he his doing his job, but as he plays for Liverpool lets place the seed of hatred in people's minds and keep those haters hating.

All said and done, well chuffed with yesterday's result.

Wow, what a result. This was really an odd game.
We played very well in the first 30 mins, then sat back for some reason and invited their midfield onto us...eventually leading to the equaliser (poor defending too). Then we were totally outplayed in the second half especially for the 10-20 mins after they scored the second... it was again frustrating to see the ball being given away cheaply and pressure invited onto us by keeping it amongst the defence :(
In all honesty i know our team has goals in them especially with Suarez on the field, however that 15min spell of Spurs had me worried.

We are such a different team when we play our attacking football and move it quicker and even after Downing's equaliser, we were playing the better football again.
Suarez is my MOTM, while i can appreciate the good performance of Downing, i just cant overlook the overall impact Suarez had on the match... i really hope he wins a Player of the year award or something coz his attitude and determination is exemplary.

This was arguably our toughest of the remaining fixtures (perhaps Everton) and we collected 3 points, so this should spur us on to continue fighting for the top 4.

      Great result!!

Well in lads!. An excellent display of fight and character. We didn't play all that well, we let Spurs back into the game but when we needed a response we got one and that's what matters most.

A few negatives but today is not the time or place for posting it. We didn't play all that well but we got the result, that's what counts and is the sign of character building for the youngsters.

Well in Redmen. Phase 2 of Operation Europe completed.

Well we won a game in which we did not dominate all the way through whereas we have lost or drawn games ealier in the season where we did dominate all the way through.

We won't win the title this year but if we have built a side that can win when we are playing not so well and win when we are then this season will have been a success and will give me a well founded optimism of what we can achieve next season.

      Roll on Southampton!!

Not a great performance, but we got the win. We owe them a few results after the games from the past few years.
