Yep, remember seeing an interview with Parry a few years back were he mentioned that and Rafa's talks with Valencia breaking down, Parry spoke to both Steven and Carragher, who at the time were both impressed with Rafa after what his teams had done to us twice in the CL and the friendly before the start of the 2003/2004 season.

No I don't think he was hotter. Let's remember Mourinho had won the UEFA Cup and the Champions League back to back with Porto which is no mean feat at all. I'd agree Rafa became better material after what he achieved and that the board made a bang on decision in choosing Rafa but I think most people in Europe saw Mourinho as the real star of management that summer.

No it's something of course. But honestly, they beat Man U in the QF completely down to a Tim Howard howler which made a routine win a loss. THen they beat .... Deportivo La Coruna in the semi and Monaco in the final. Great for Porto but hardly legendary. I mean Porto won it before in 86 against a very strong Bayern Munich with Paolo Futre. Who was the coach of that team?

I'm guessing if Jose Mourinho ever comes, it will be the day we start talking about winning championships again. Did Mourinho spent heavily at Porto? I always thought he make that team look exceptional and the players became exceptional because of playing for that Porto team. Winning Uefa then the Champions League in succession only serves to prove one point that the team grew in strength and ability under Jose Mourinho.
