Would have been more as well but he had a habit of falling in the 90s. Was only young when Athers was playing for England, but remember him falling on 99 I think a few times.

I completely Idolize you guys. You actually know what your watching. I watched some of the Ashes online which is probably the 2nd time ever i watched Cricket.  I have NO IDEA what is going on.

I spent an hour, staring at my screen saying nothing but....."What?"..."Wait, why is he running"...."What the F**k is that guy doing?" .."They use Infa-Red?"...."What the hell is going on?"

I want to understand it, I love sport and everyone is saying how great the match was. So, seeing a huge sporting event like the Ashes and having no idea what is going on is driving me nuts.  My problem is I relate it to Baseball, so I am utterly lost.

It appears England won. So congrats to the England team and supporters.

Test cricket is wonderful mate.. Has the lot, tactics long and short, a bit like chess the way you think yourself through a game..
The direction of the match can change session by session. One bad decision could cost you.. The way they work on the ball to get it to do what they want is an art..

I'm sure any questions you have can be answered mate

For the record I cannot stand baseball. Cricket is a much better game.

You guys are just being mean now!  How the hell are they going to get their heads round the terminology if you don't give a brief explanation of what they need.

That's like trying to explain the offside rule backwards  ;D

Mate I'll start you off.  The first section is referring to fielding positions, the second section are types of bowling delivery's.

Fielding positions vary depending on whether you're facing a left or right handed batsman, whether the bowler is left or right handed and/or the type of delivery the bowler is planning on using.  They can be changed for each of the 6 delivery's per over.

That should keep you going for a while  ;D

Compare the balls they use, getting hit by a baseball would feel like a feather when compared to being hit with a Cricket ball, those corkies would take your F***ing head off.

And PD you forgot the Wrong Un' ;)

      Definitely.

Played baseball for high school. They didnt have a left handed mit and they said my hand would break if I didn't use a glove. So I tried it out and laughed at them. It's got a F***ing soft leather covering it!

And I got hit by a pitch. Not a patch on getting hit by a cricket ball. I've had bruises on my inner thigh for a month after a cricket delivery.

      More than once unfortunately.

Broken my box before copping one at about 125km's. Thought I'd never be able to reproduce at the time (not that I have, or even tried).

Few things for you to look at mate..

Im a bit busy at work this week but wanted to throw you some things to watch.

The story of the greatest Ashes series of all time - England vs Australia 2005

The word's me and crouchy threw at you were essentially types of fielding positions or balls that the bowler will try to bowl. This below is a fielding map, explaining the different positions.

The types of balls can be bowled by the same bowler, he will try to outfox the batter by hiding the ball in his run up so they cant see how it comes out of the hand as to show if it will swing in or out, or if a spinner will try to turn it in or out, or straight on..

Here's a couple of video's of the top bowlers at their best.

Finn out, Bresnan in for England.

Harris and Khawaja in for Australia. I'm surprised Starc's missing out, thought he bowled pretty well at Trent Bridge.

Like Root. Not convinced he is an opener though. Top order looks a little frail with him opening. Wouldn't have dropped Compton for this series myself, would have dropped Bairstow and have Root in the middle.

Still fancy us to rescue this and get 350. Dunno if that will be good enough though!
