      Our Ashes warm up match against Essex is hardly putting us in good form;

222-7 with all of our top 7 reaching double figures but none going past 50. Joe Root has been pushed to opener with Compton dropped for this match.

      Cook - 18
      Root - 41
      Trott - 32
      Pietersen - 49
      Bell - 13
      Bairstow - 23
      Prior - 20

Bresnan and Swann currently in. Bresnan on 10 and Swann 4.

One thing I'd like to see changed is the ODI games on before the Tests. If I remember rightly that was the format in 2005 and it really built the Ashes series up. The ODI's were seen as tasters for what was to come and really helped hype up excitement.

Doing it this way we are straight in with the best matches and then theres all those limited overs games, and they usually end up feeling rather meaningless. After the Lord Mayor's show and all that.

And Englands batting was ropey today. Bresnan and Swann coming to the sides rescue. Not that it will matter in regard to this match. Lancs bowled this shower out for 20 a few weeks back. ;D

Agree with this. Don't like ODI's before the Ashes. Much preferred it in 2005 (drawn ODI series that year wasn't it?). Remember Australia got beat by Bangladesh in the run up as well?!

Needless to say I love the Ashes and look forward to this and the series in Australia at the end of the year as well. Going to be a great remaining few months for cricket fans.

Swanny just took a nasty blow, possible injury. He's fighting on though, obviously wants his ton. And Besnan has just been hit on the helmet by a great bouncer by Mills, who has impressed me immensely in this match. He's F***ing lightning pace.

He and Bres have dragged England out the sh*t here. Bresnan on 64, Swann on 79.

      Partnership - 144.

      We are sh*te.

The players are ill-disciplined, drug taking, alcohol fuelled, out of form sh*t bags. We'll do well to win a test match over there.

Still pumped for it though. I love Ashes time.

Our 13 man squad for the opening Test

      A.Cook (captain)
      J.Anderson
      J.Bairstow
      I.Bell
      T.Bresnan
      S.Broad
      S.Finn
      G.Onions
      K.Pietersen
      M.Prior
      J.Root
      G.Swann
      J.Trott

Be interesting to see how we go here, if we're going to stick with the four bowlers meaning Bairstow bats at six or whether we go for five bowlers with Prior coming in at six. I'd rather it was five bowlers as I really don't rate Bairstow.

      My team would be

      Cook
      Root
      Trott
      Pietersen
      Bell
      Prior
      Bresnan
      Broad
      Swann
      Finn
      Anderson

      First hour gone.

Lots of swing to start with, Ali Cook dismissed for 13 by edging behind to the keeper.

      39-1 (13 overs)

Pietersen gone for 14. Still don't get the whole nonsense of him being our best batsmen.

      Bowled Siddle, caught Clarke.

      102-3.

Siddle on fire! But if it weren't for him we'd be in a heap. His momentum has carried Starc and Pattinson, who in all honesty have been sh*t.

Loving this. Only bad thing is I can't scream my he'd off when we get a wicket at 1am.

Typical England! :lmao: Out of interest, when was the last time the favourites, on their home turf, were bowled out on the first day of the tournament?

Jimmy should get a few early wickets here, though.

EDIT: Watson gone. Finny gets it though.

      EDIT 2: And another! :D
