They wanted 6m for him, a valuation we didn't agree with for a player who is yet to be proven. So we waited and now he's apparently refusing to sign a new contract and we feel that strengthens our hand. So we'll probably have a bid accepted with him then Spurs will come in and swipe him from under our noses :P

Or more likely, we ship Skrtel and Coates for a combined £12m, sign him for £5m and prasie the lord we have 'improved' our cash balance and saved a sh*t load of wages. Ayrer year end bonus will be very nice indeed.

It finanical alchemy I tells ya!

Ilori has got a good deal of pace about him. Can't really remember the last time we had a very quick CB.

See on transfers such as this one, I totally get that a protracted on-off approach can bare fruit. You could say the same about Poppadopulus or whatever the f*ck his name is, it maybe that we'll end up getting him and not getting ripped. The crucial difference is though if there is another club seriously interested in signing the player. Then, when we bugger about we end up losing the target.

At the moment this guy is only good for the reserve team, imo. The great thing Llori has is his velocity, in the rest is worse than all ours cbs.

Been a while.....maybe Lawrenson was the last one.

Im not too fussed about loads of pace. I want one like Sami who will dominate at the back and head the ball away from crosses, corners, long throws, diagonal balls and just generally defend like a top class defender on a consistant basis.

Don't know too much about this lad except we seem to be bartering even at a 4m asking price...if anyone else steps in we will lose this one as well.

Didn't realise spurs were looking for a centre back, but now we've shown our hand, that's likely where he'll end up.

maybe he was being looked at for our u21s and cup runs and the like, he is a portugese u21, but obviously a first teamer at sporting, so it'll be hard to get him for a ~reserves price~ when they see him as an asset.

This dude looks good in the air and very composed on the ball, a cool headed player with good passing ability and strength and pace. bloody hell buy him if the opportunities there, exactly what type of player we should have in this high line passing technical team. I will assume he's consistent and expect to see him announced on lfctv in the coming days thanks. ;D

They did offload Caulker to Cardiff City mate. I have to say that was one of the strangest transfers of this window, really surprised nobody else went in for him. I think Caulker has a big future ahead of him.

Ilori on his way to Liverpool
Liverpool offers 7 million euros and with Sporting is still part of the pass.

      Are you serious?!

I've never seen him play. Is he one for the future or is he able to cement his place in our first team this year?

One of the lads on The Anfield Wrap was raving about this lad. Never seen him play and I would much prefer a more established CB in, but I suppose spending over 10mill these days is out of the question...

He made only 11 games on League last year on worst Sporting ever (they finished on 7º).
He has potencial but 7M€ to play on Liverpool who have Agger, Touré, Skrtel, Coates, Wisdom, Kelly and kids like Sama and Lloyd Jones? I see no point.

I don't understand this transfer whatsoever, especially for the price quoted. He's young, sure, and has potential, sure, but right now we need someone who can provide instant quality.

Some people are talking about Alderweireld okay, but it's that quality we need no? We need someone who works really har ;)

Look at it this way, we can't be making signings for 3-4 months when we already have the required players despite them being injured

Skrtel, agger and toure are experienced defenders, so it makes little sense in getting an experienced player, we may get one on loan which would make sense

a lot of the players you listed are frankly not good enough and are not showing enough potential

Apparently it's an agreed deal. Be interesting to see whether he can cut the mustard here or whether he'll be another pricey flop.
