At 7M he's hardly pricey though.
Unless you're FSG. Then anything that's not a loan is pricey.

ā‚¬7m is the money we've offered, check Duncan Castle's twitter. The offer hasn't been accepted yet.

Tiago Ilori (left) challenges Benfica's Enzo Perez

"Liverpool are also likely to be busy in the next few days. Manager Brendan Rodgers remains determined to add an attacking player and a central defender.

"Now Sporting Lisbon's Tiago Ilori, 20, is the defender he really wants but so far this summer, the asking price of close to Ā£15m has been way above Liverpool's valuation of the player.

"The hope at Anfield, is that a deal can still be done. In terms of an attacking player? Dynamo Kiev forward Andriy Yarmolenko, who has a year left on his contract, is one option. But there are others and, as always, it will come down to getting the best possible value for money."

That's Victor Moses then. Any high profile player will be overpriced - that's just the transfer market in general.

      Sven Claes ā€
Liverpool is officially in talks with #Ajax for Belgian defender Alderweireld (24). Still, there has been no bid made. To be continued. #LFC

No idea who Sven Claes is but may be Toby is that "best possible value for money" cos there are rumors floating around that Sporting value Ilori at 15mil. Seems a repeat of what Granada did with Siquiera, doubling the value once negotiations began. So, I guess someone else is also in for Ilori

According to these wannabe twitter journalists and several news sources, we are closing in on Papadopolous, Sakho, Llori, and Alderweireld. Of course, we want to sign four centre backs.

Actually Tez our flops seem to come from the 12-20 million bracket (Sturridge being an exception) as well as of course 35 million+

Migs, Aspas, Coutinho, Alberto all seem to be decent players and all around that 7-10 million mark.

Probably don't want 4 but with our signing success rate at about 50% right now 2 out of 4 would do us.

Reds in fresh talks over Ā£6m defender
Liverpool FC back in talks over Tiago Ilori

      By James Pearce

Liverpool FC have held further talks with Sporting Lisbon as they look to wrap up a deal for defender Tiago Ilori.

The ECHO revealed last week that the Reds had renewed their interest in the highly-rated 20-year-old centre-back.

Negotiations broke down back in June with the clubs far apart in their valuations but Liverpool are hopeful a compromise fee of around Ā£6million can be agreed.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is also interested in Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho. However, with Roma also keen on him and PSG reluctant to sell, Ilori appears to be the more likely new arrival before Mondayā€™s transfer deadline.

Toby Alderweireld, who Liverpool have repeatedly been linked with this summer, is set to leave Ajax to sign for Atletico Madrid.

The Reds scouted Alderweireld extensively but opted not to follow up their interest having come to the conclusion he wasnā€™t suited to the demands of Premier League football.

Liverpool gives ā‚¬ 7 million per Ilori

Tiago Ilori is output Sporting. Liverpool, with many problems in his defense, yesterday made a push to hire permanent central to negotiations if sustained by the morning and finished around 7am.

All because the SAD not abdicated fit seven million euros for the player (funds which may increase depending on some goals stipulated in the agreement between clubs) or to keep a percentage of about 25 percent of the pass the player in a future transfer.

Furthermore, this agreement is also netted the remaining debt by Sporting InsĆŗa already amortized by transferring JoĆ£o Carlos

A deal looks close. Have a read of a scout report I did of the kid below.

A more reader-friendly version can be found here - http://anfieldforever.co.uk/?p=107

      Quote
Young Sporting Lisbon defender, Tiago Ilori, is a player Liverpool have been linked with very strongly over the past month or so as Brendan Rodgers looks to rebuild his defence following the retirement of Jamie Carragher and the likelihood that Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates will be playing their football away from Anfield next season.

Standing 6ft 3in, the 20-year-old central defender has had a meteoric rise this season. He was fast-tracked from the famed Sporting Lisbon Academy and promoted to the first team by new coach, Jesualdo Ferreira, who promoted a number of youth players to the senior team after Sporting Lisbonā€™s nightmare start to the season saw two coaches, Ricardo Sa Pinto and Franky Vercauteren, sacked in the space of 8 months.

A product of the Academy, who previously produced players of the ilk of Luis Figo and Ricardo Quaresma and then more recently, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, Tiago Ilori certainly has had a good football schooling if nothing else.

Born and raised in London to a Nigerian father and Portuguese mother, Ilori moved to Portugal with his mother during Euro 2004 who had found a job in Lisbon. Iloriā€™s mother returned to England soon after in 2006. However, Ilori decided to stay on in Portugal as he enrolled into Sporting Lisbonā€™s Academy to continue his footballing education.

With this being his breakthrough season, his coach, Jesualdo Ferreira, has done Tiago Ilori a favour as he has thrown in a couple of youngsters from the Academy straight into the first team which has taken the pressure off him being the only youngster in the first team. The likes of 18-year-old Bruma and 19-year-old Englishman, Eric Dier, have also taken their opportunity to shine this season. However, it is Iloriā€™s talent that has caught the eye and he has been the pick of the young brood at Sporting Lisbon this season which has led to a number of scouts following him closely. Valencia are said to be very interested in Tiago Ilori along with Liverpool.

A few Liverpool fans may have noticed the tall, elegant centre-back during the recent NextGen Championship where Tiago Ilori featured for Sporting Lisbon when they beat Liverpoolā€™s equivalent 3-0, at Anfield. If nothing else that day, it gave Liverpoolā€™s backroom staff an opportunity to see some of the talent on show and they duly picked up playmaker, Joao Carlos Teixeira, the following summer.

So what kind of a player is Tiago Ilori?

With the little we have seen of Tiago Ilori (he has only made 12 appearances for Sporting Lisbonā€™s senior side the second half of this season), he is a tall, elegant defender who is blessed with immense pace; highlighted by the fact that he has recorded faster sprint times than both Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani during time trials at the Academy. He is a ball-playing centre-back who likes to play his way out of trouble rather than looking for the easy way out. If you are looking for a similar type of player for comparison, he has been likened to Raphael Varane of Real Madrid.

Tiago Ilori is predominantly right-footed although he prefers to play as the left sided central defender. At the Academy, Ilori played right across the back line and his youth coach felt his best position could eventually be at left-back as he has great pace and acceleration and if he improves going forward, this could be the position Ilori eventually ends up playing long term.

At just 20-years of age, he has a lot of growing up to do. He is extremely raw in the air despite his size and being very slight, suffers against physical, imposing strikers. However, his temperament cannot be questioned as he is an excellent reader of the game and is calm under pressure and not overawed in big games. However, he does suffer from lapses in concentration and he has made a couple of mistakes that have led to direct goals this season. This, of course, is down to inexperience and his concentration should improve as he gets older and plays more games.

Portuguese journalist, Tom Kundert, believes Ilori has all the traits to be a top player and is possibly the long-term successor to Ricardo Carvalho. He states:-

ā€œIlori was thrown in at the deep end and looked a bit nervous. However, he has got better and better and looks like a classy centre-back, rather than a ā€˜Ramboā€™ type. More Ricardo Carvalho than John Terry, you could say.ā€

High praise indeed from someone who watches Sporting Lisbon week in-week out.

The price tag for Tiago Ilori could be a small one with Sportingā€™s much publicised financial difficulties. There is every possibility Liverpool (or Valencia) could snap up the young defender for a mere Ā£2m which would be great business if Liverpool do indeed sell Sebastian Coates who seems surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Seems quite an expensive signing as he's not long been in Sporting's first team.
