Honestly don't think he realized that clattenburg had given the go ahead.  Not that it's an excuse and I don't know the rules regarding when a kick is allowed to be taken but Simon clearly wasn't ready as he was still trying to move his wall.

As long as the ball is stationery and in the right place the free kick can be taken.
That in itself is shady because there have been many cases of the ref ordering the kick to be retaken because the player didn't wait for the whistle to proceed.
      Wants sorting out for sure.

That's only if the ref has instructed them to wait for the whistle which you will see by him pointing to it

The keeper should always be ready from when the ball is put down,  that's why you often get a player stood in front of the ball stopping them taking it which often leads to a yellow or the taker will kick it against them to force the yellow for obstruction as technically the ball is still in play unless the ref says otherwise which he didn't last night

      Keepers fault I'm afraid

Seen a few saying that he had redeemed himself for the free kick by saving the penalty last night.

Not for me. If he had looked at the ball for both of the attempts we might have won the game. I really believe that the Luiz free kick would have been struck differently had he not spotted Mignolet dawdling.

The guy wasn't ready, didn't hear the whistle not much to complain about really.

Mignolet since coming in as no.1 has been superb, the free kick could have happened to any keeper.

I think he did redeem himself mate, had Bobby tucked away his chances we could have won the game...

Still a tit for walking away like he did...

Even if Luiz had ran up and planted a big X where he was going to hit the ball, I don't think Mignolet would have got near it.  The wall may as well not have been there with the ducking and turning away from the ball.

His distribution is still so poor.  Not helped by the likes of Lovren and Milner faffing about with the ball.  We put ourselves under so much unnecessary pressure at times.

Simon reminds me of the kid at school who was sh*te at football and stuck in nets.  I'm just glad he's brought back some element of shot stopping to his game.

Yeah Bobby should have done his job, too.

Just not having the 'redeemed' bit. I've liked Mig since he came back in but last night, penalty aside, I seen a little bit of that guy who got dropped for Karius.

I agree with this. I think he got distracted by Milner and Lovren still trying to find their positions. My main issue is his distributions rather than anything.
That penalty save was crucial imo. Had we conceded another late penalty goal and lost that game it would have caused a very negative atmosphere around the team right now.

Have looked at that replay several times and it's most likely he didn't hear the whistle. He doesn't seem to react at all and looks like he is completely oblivious that the free kick is ready to be played - not his focus, just like he hasn't heard it.

As you indicate it is not a straightforward procedure, when the ball is put down the opposing players should be 10 yards from the ball, if the ref is pacing out the distance and the kick is taken by your reasoning that should stand.
It also has been seen where the ball is kicked into a player to force an obstruction and the ref hasn't given that decision.
Whether you consider the keeper at fault or not the entire ruling regarding the ref whistling for the kick to be taken needs clarifying to avoid situations such as this.

Can't remember the last free kick specialist before Suarez. Was it Aurelio? I think that kind of skill is way overlooked. Our corners have been sh*t for years it feels like.

Yep, I'd say Fabio was the last before Luis.

And your tight about corners. We're that sh*t at them I'd much rather we took a short corner every time.

It's weird because our crossing on short corners is so much better.

Take that over a lucky effort by Luiz, when the keeper wasn't looking, that went in off the post any day.

Another Mignolet moment today, giving away the first goal.
Pity, after saving a peno, and essentially a point, vs Chavs.
Swings and roundabouts with him, and always will be.

Though am not in any way blaming him for the loss.
We had enough possession to win 2 or 3 matches.
Nope, Migs might have sent us behind, but we lost as a team.

We were 1-0 down in that match because of his brainlessness.

I said it before and I'll say it again - the worst keeper I have ever seen play for Liverpool. Karius got dropped for making two mistakes in two games. Will Mignolet? Where's the media and fan anger for Mignolet or have we all just become immune to his awfulness that we find it easier to accept his awfulness?

      Terrible for the first goal.

Appears Mignolet cannot keep up a consistently high level of keeping for the duration.

Playing behind a back four that includes two players that aren't defenders by trade. Doesn't excuse his swings and misses but just like a poor keeper doesn't inspire confidence in his backline, the same could probably be said of the other way around. He seems to have plenty of confidence, he's just not physically imposing and he's too indecisive (which could be in part to his backline).
