Keeper makes a mare of Aspas' shot, and it goes in. Well hit, but almost dead centre of the net.

Get in young man, nice for him to get a debut goal. Was some lovely football before that and delighted to see that hit the back of the net.

Strange to see the keeper let that in but hey, we'll take it, get in 4-0 redmen!

Preston aren't this bad are they? Surprised for the first pre season friendly that we are so technically and tactically lightyears ahead of the opposition. In these early stages of pre season we've on the whole during the last few years looked pretty bang average so its good to see us having a good time here especially for the fans who are seeing this today.

Cracker by Aspas! More reason to feel good about this signing!

yeah it's really good that we've scored a bunch of goals and pressed a team well before going around the world to play, these lads will be itching to go instead of maybe being apprehensive about all the travel.

Allen doesn't look like he did enough earlier.  Personally I think others players are more solid in his role.  With Gerrard, Alberto,  Henderson and Lucas being able to play that role,  plus making room for Coutinho in the midfield.  Sterling and Ibe seeming to look good on wings so downing will be out to west ham I guess.  Aspas looking like he will partner either Suarez or Sturridge.

My computer froze and got blurred just at the moment it cut to him, about to come on. I actually had to remind myself that we DID get shot of Aquilani last year and he was still not on our books! Then the video got playing again and my worst fears were thankfully not confirmed!

Good stuff out of the lads. A lot of pluses and the extra bit of fitness to iron out the pre season sloppiness. Thought Sterling and Pacheco stood out in second half, whilst Coutinho looked sharp in the first.

      All in all.... promising viewing.

Good day for us that. Dominated throughout, pressed well and passed well, but tempo was certainly a lot slower in the second half, although we still combined well to score Sterling and Aspas' goals. No injuries, and the welcome sight of Alberto Aquilani, sorry, Martin Kelly, on his return from injury.

Particularly positive for me were Ibe and Coutinho in the first half, and Sterling and Aspas impressed me in the second. Alberto was tidy, looks like a good player who will only get better as he adapts. Could have done better with the chances he had, but he moved the ball about nicely.

I know it's just Preston in pre-season but wow, Aspas looks to be a cracking player.

Nice way to start off the preseason!!

Thought that Ibe, Sterling, and Coutinho all looked fantastic!!

Aspas, Luis Alberto, Hendo, Allen, Agger, Toure, and Johno all looked calm and composed on the ball.

Borini and Assaidi both seemed erratic - Assaidi always looks like he is on the verge of doing something spectacular but just never does, and Borini showed good movement and energy but lacked the composure/confidence to finish his chance.

Mignolet looked solid in goal.  Having him and Reina gives us two top class GK's.

It was good to see the likes of Kelly return from injury.  If he can stay fit and injury free then I think he can be a very good player for us!!

Think Pacheco, Spearo, and Flano are basically just making cameos until we can shift them onto new clubs.  Don't think any of the 3 are Liverpool quality, although Pacheco did have a few moments of quality this afternoon.

All in all, great way to start out the preseason!!  Onwards and upwards for the Mighty Reds!!  YNWA

Alberto - lovely in the Alonso role, not so good looking in front of goal, 2 shots were poor

Sterling - same as usual, lively, little to no end product, took his goal opportunity well though

Pacheco - surprised me, but didn't convince me

Borini - oh dear, disappointing, federer may be right

      Toure - class

Ibe - raw, naive, better than Sterling

Coutinho - rusty, and still class

Aspas - indecisive for first chance, nice shot for goal, but the ball was very central and the keeper was atrocious. Linked up well, busy movement

Allen - tidy, neat, good passing but with no real impact

Hot day, not match fit, new team mates playing together, run of the mill pre-season

Everyone else was steady, and did well

      Great result.

Really good run out for us. Easy win, yes, but we worked hard, pressed and fought to win the ball back. Feels good to see us start strong and even better to see the lads implement Brendan's tactics about pressing. Some good goals too.

Would be ridiculous IMO to draw too much out of individual performances in this one. Just the first match of preseason, so there's plenty of time for players to find their feet, etc.

Only caught the second half of a very comfortable pre season game.  Ward looked calm & collected, Aspas impressed.  Still work to do.

Absolutely delighted with the result, especially as I had 4-0 to us, get in the lads.

Coutinho the player of the game but closely followed by Ibe and Sterling who were both brilliant, albeit against an awful Preston defence.

Beating anyone 4-0 helps the confidence and truthfully Preston never looked like scoring, even their only shot was an expected save from Mignolet.

I only saw bits and bobs, but Sterling and Wisdom in particular both confirmed my impression that they are going to be excellent players for us.
