Interesting to hear, the only time Owen sounds truly expressive is when talking about Stewart Downing, was almost orgasmic about him when compared to his mundane self.

Anyone else get a bit pi**ed off with the commentators going on about their young players, praising their academy yet we had more under 21's playing, yet not a mention.

Sadly, probably because he knows very little of the other players.

Honest assessment guys, how was it? How do the new lads look compared to our established players? Would have watched it but having problems with getting bloody BT Sport on the go.

Ibe's not Nigerian, he's English.  Regardless of where his ancestry lies, he can pronounce his name however he wants.  Just think of all the people with Italian heritage who pronounce their names totally differently than it would be pronounced in Italy by native speakers, for example.  Whatever your wife says may be how they pronounce it in Nigeria, but it has no bearing as to how he pronounces his name.

His parents are Nigerian so they probably told him how it's pronounced...

I don't believe so, Gary Gillespie and the other LFCTV commentator were discussing the pronouncieation the other day and evidently the lad himself had asked that it be pronounced Ibe as in (rymes with scribe)

I have noticed that they have pronounced it differently this pre season and thought that they had found out the correct pronunciation.

Are you kidding me? Ibe is his surname.

You don't just decide I'm going to pronounce my surname differently. In any event, it doesn't matter how he wishes to pronounce it.

Ibe is a Nigerian name. It is pronounced "ebay".

If it's his name he and his family can pronounce it any way they see fit.

Jordon Ibe, in fact, pronounces his name: https://twitter.com/LFC/status/361153104646897665

What he say? "Ibe" (not ebay or eyeby?)

      Cool, thanks.

That's not how to pronounce it by the way, but if he's decided to change his name this year, then I'll look forward to next year and perhaps he'll get it right ;)

I wonder how his parents pronounce his name...

Alberto MOTM by miles for me. Delightful performance.

Valerenga were truly awful though, I'd certainly like to see us against some big teams from next year. Don't feel we've been tested enough.

Doubt that will happen. I don't think the standard has been any less or any more than previous seasons. That said Valarenga played much better two years back. But then again we played much better this year than two years ago.

Ibe is a Nigerian name. It is pronounced "ebay".

I'm pretty sure he can claim it's pronounced however he wants.  Are you saying if he decided to pronounce it "eye-bee" then you would go up to him and say "no, your name is Nigerian, it's pronounced 'e-bay'!"

You may well be right, but he can say he wants his name pronounced however he wants.

We had a similar situation last year with Nuri Sahin.  His last name is technically pronounced with a "sh," not a "s", i.e., it should be said "shah-heen."  But people called him "sah-heen", and he didn't correct them.

It's his name, he can do whatever he wants.
