Alder Hey YA

Hi guys,

I am employed by a charity called Youth Action, and a Team Leader of a group of 16-18 year olds who are from Liverpool. Just as a bit of background, each young person voluntarily signed up to the program and we have taken them on two residential's. The first was to Kingswood outdoor activity centre in North Wales (formerly Colomendy). They did a lot of activities to build confidence and team skills, as well as learning to live away from home. The second week was to prepare them for independent living. They managed their own money and took part in workshops relating to work and interview skills, as well as developing life skills. That may sound a bit boring but they loved it and had a great time.

For the last two weeks, the idea is that the young people plan and deliver a social action project in their area. All the kids decided to do some fundraising for Alder Hey Childrens hospital, calling the project 'Alder Hey YA'. For those of you who don't know, Alder Hey cares for over 270,000 young patients each year and is one of the leading children's hospitals in the UK.

We have a venue for a fun day, as well as a few other ideas. I am taking the kids to Alder Hey to look around tomorrow and then the fun day will be next Tuesday in Kensington. Although we are finalising details, I would really appreciate if you could 'Like' this page on Facebook to show your support. Just a little update, we did a bucket collection in Liverpool City Centre which was a major success and the public didn't cease to surprise me once again. On Tuesday, we will be doing a bag pack in Tescos on Allerton Road from 10am-4pm, if you fancy dropping in and having your bread packed by Semps. We are having a fundraising event in Garston Urban Village Hall (70 Banks Road, Garston, L19 8JZ) on Sarurday 31st August from 12pm-5pm. There will be a range of activities, such as face painting, bouncy castle obstacle course etc etc. Would be great if some of you could come down.

Today we raised a magnificent £630! So impressed with the kids and thankful to the people of Garston. Thanks to all who supported the group.

Thanks mate, still counting the other money but think we are on for just under £2000 raised in the space of about a 9 days!!  I'll be working in town on Fri so I may call round on my lunch or something.

First of all, thank you to everyone who donated and bought raffle tickets. The group managed to raise an amazing £2005.42, all going to Alder Hey Children's Charity. So happy for them. Thanks for all your help.
