Welcome Tiago! Let's hope we all can remember no "H" in "Tiago" and the first letter of his last name is "I"

Think I've said this a few times, but from what I've read about this lad he sounds very quick and athletic, which seems like something Brendan prefers for one of his CB spots. One for the future no doubt.

Welcome and good luck, Tiago! Going to be tough to crack the first team regularly this season I think, but in the future could be very influential.

One for the future maybe but I wouldn't put it past Brendan to allow him to feature in the next round of the Carling Cup. Would be a bit of an eye opener for the lad.

      Welcome to the club Ilori.

Never heard of him before our interest/signing of him. Is he that good and does he really have a chance to start over Agger, Skrtel or Sahko?

Did not know that him and Teixeira were close mates.

'I'll help Ilori settle in Liverpool'

Joao Carlos Teixeira has welcomed the addition of his friend Tiago Ilori to Liverpool and insists he will be an exciting capture for the future.

Following his arrival on transfer deadline day from Sporting Lisbon, Ilori has been reunited with former teammate Teixeira, both of whom played key roles in a win over Liverpool in the NextGen Series in 2011.

Teixeira is delighted to team up with the promising centre-half again and has promised to help him settle in to life on Merseyside.

"Tiago is really happy to be here," Teixeira told Liverpoolfc.com. "I have already spoken with him and he's going to enjoy it here.

"He is a really fast player for a centre-back, is tall and he will get stronger and improve here.

"I will show him the city and help him settle quickly."

It was Teix who helped persuade him to come AZ.  Talk was last season he was wanted at spuds due to AVB's connection but seems that Teix did the business.

Could be a promising future for the two of them together Deb, really like what we have done with the youth set-up over the past 5 years...thanks to Rafa for having the foresight and to Kenny and Brendan for seeing the value of it.

Absolutely mate.  Rafa knew he'd never have the money he'd need to buy in quality so set about creating it ourselves.  Personally I'd like to see more being brought in but even unproven 19/20 year olds cost money these days.

To be fair to Coates, he seemed comfortable under a system that suited his style of defending/play, but think he started to show signs of struggling under BR and his philosophy of playing from the back. Tiago should fit right in with his pace and youth career as a forward player.

why dont we give him a go 1st half as RWB against newcastle that way we can see how he is and if its not working we should have Johnson on the bench. If it does work then we can keep Johnson on the bench and bring him back slowly so he dont rush back

So far turning out to be a lot of money wasted on a player that doesn't appear to be getting involved with the 1st team anytime soon. Any news on the lad and how he's doing at the club?

He was bought for the future, is doing just fine in ressies and its not like he needs to be rushed, we have a host of players in the defense for this season.

Would not exactly call it money wasted on a player, yes we need to worry about spending on the starting XI but at the same time the gaffer needs to be forward thinking for next season and thereafter.

£7m wasn't it? I understand about it being one for the future but I always think that amount of money is a lot in that situation, especially when we cant spend mega money anyway. Im sure it's not just me but like the Alberto fee, I can't help but think their fee's could have gone to improving our midfield now, especially when we need bit of a no nonsense holding player with some strength about him too.

Though that said, if he goes on to become a cracking player for us you wont hear me complaining.

agree mate the fact we missed johnson and had to play to midfielders there is suprising as he's quick and comfy on the ball so could have done a job against palace at Home!!! i'm fed up of buying "for the future" we have a great U21 squad now full of  talent so now we need to buy for the now if we are to compete for the league

I reckon he might go out on loan to gain some competitive footy as he's been bought to fill the gap when we eventually sell Sktretl to the russians, we all know its going to happen either in Jan depending on if he's keeping his place or in the summer for a higher fee after he has hopefully a successful campaign. he's a decent defender and is still young so bedding him in whilst we have Kolo, Agger and sakho who are all 3 completely different types of CB will do him good. so i would loan him out in Jan then sell Skrtel and next season start bringing him into the team with advice from the remaining 3 CB as unless things change it would be Kolos last season as we only signed him on a 2yr deal.
