Any suspicions on how long Sakho's ban will be? The reports in France say it was a fat-burning pill as opposed to things like HGH or narcotics.

      6 months to a year I reckon.

Confirmed, no further ban, UEFA decided that the substance was not on or shouldn't have been on banned list.

Kick in the nuts is he could have played in the final.

Well that is terrible. What's Mamadou's chances of taking UEFA to court because this definitely seems a worthy case.

Looks like the defense are arguing that what Sakho took didn't in fact contain any banned stuff, or the stuff shouldn't be on the banend list.
If proven correct, Sakho and the club could take an action against UEFA, and imo rightly so, the tits.
If proven to contain banned whatever, UEFA might extent the ban.
But in the meantime, they'll suspend the ban ... it sounds like.

      F***ing mess. Thanks UEFA. Again.

Mamadou Sakho: Liverpool defender 'free to play' after 30-day ban for failed drugs test is not extended

Uefa will reportedly investigate whether the substance he tested positive for should be prohibited

Mamadou Sakho's 30-day provisional ban for failing a drugs test has not been extended by Uefa, pending an investigation into whether the substance he used should be prohibited.

The Liverpool defender is free to play again as from Sunday and could be included in Didier Deschamps' France sqaud for this summer's European Championships.

Sakho tested positive for the substance - believed to be a fat-burning supplement - following his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Europa League on 17 March.

The 26-year-old was provisionally banned for 30 days after Uefa, European football's governing body, opened disciplinary proceedings on 28 April.

Sakho's defence, submitted to Uefa's disciplinary committee on Monday, argued that the substance should not be on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of banned substances having presented scientific evidence regarding its effects.

The evidence has persuaded Uefa to hold an investigation into the drug's status. Sakho's case remains open but, after the expiration of the 30-day ban, he is permitted to play again.

The 26-year-old centre-back missed the final seven fixtures of Liverpool’s season, including the Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.

The Independent has attempted to contract Uefa but they are currently unavailable for comment.

Why cant we stand up to them they are terrified of the big clubs forming a super league they need to be brought a sense of reality they are not "football".
So pleased for Sakho and I hope he takes them and takes them down hard.

Surely you can't be investigated twice? It isn't currently banned so they can't then ban him for something they may put on the ban list in future.

He's not quite out of the woods yet, but if they do prove what he took contains nothing on the banned list (my understanding) then we will have lost Sakho for the end of the season and the Europa final, which along with the tarnishing of his good name (again, assuming he's cleared) is hard to quantify, but agree ... hope we pursue them to try ... and maximize whatever compensation he/we can get,

They haven't made a decision on his case, if they find that the substance belongs on the list they can still come back and ban him. Just like when Barca got a transfer ban, appealed it and were able to use the transfer market and then the ban was enforced.

I'm confused, I thought they said the substance isn't on the list, but they are looking into whether to ban what Sakho took which ultimately doesn't effect Sakho because the "drug" wasn't on the list when he took it?

      WTF?!?!
This is an utterly ridiculous and scandalous scenario.
How can to prevent a player from playing for his club due to to an investigation and then clear him so he is now available for his nation?
      Honestly?!
      That's F***ing crazy? It's appalling. It's a bloody lawsuit.
He fu**ed up but now he is cleared to play after being made to miss the ONE game that we really needed him for?!
Then add in the UEFA investigations and charges towards our fans and the charges brought, which seem far more excessive that to the oppositions fans?!
UEFA have to own up to this as much as Sakho has to own up to being an idiot

Basically Sakho can be banned for playing for us, but UEFA want him to be available for France. It'd be terrible for the Euros if the hosts went out and all that.

When the euros are over they'll probably ban him again.

I'm not sure what means Sakho "wished to be suspended temporarily, of his own will, and UEFA acceded to his request."

Marc Vouillamoz, UEFA's chief medical and doping officer, is quoted by L'Equipe as saying on Tuesday: "Some substances cause an automatic suspension, others not. And in this case, the player wished to be suspended temporarily, of his own will, and UEFA acceded to his request.”

Sakho's suspension officially ended on May 28, and he is at this stage free to resume his playing career, though he was not considered for selection by France for their Euro 2016 squad.

A further update is expected from UEFA soon, with Vouillamoz saying: “To my knowledge, the disciplinary committee will decide fairly quickly on the case.

“Information was taken from experts, documents were passed to the defence of the player. Now the player has the opportunity to speak, and once the player has given its opinion, the Commission will look very quickly on the case.”
