70 goals - comparison in time
      Dec 24, 2013 06:29:41 pm
With Luis Suarez perched on 70 goals for Liverpool Football Club, I decided to take a look at how long in terms of number of games it took our top 20 goalscorers of all time to reach that landmark and see how Luis compares to them.

So, providing my maths is correct (which I think it is) here's the list. It starts with how long they took to reach the half way point (35 goals) and how long it took them to hit the second 35 goals. It finishes with how long they took combined.

      First 35;
      Fowler – 53
      Parkinson – 54
      Hunt – 56
      Torres – 56
      Stubbins – 58
      Raybould – 63
      Dalglish – 65
      Rush – 66
      Owen – 66
      Chambers – 67
      Hodgson – 69
      St John – 71
      Suarez – 78
      Forshaw – 94
      Toshack – 96
      Barnes – 98
      Balmer – 109
      Keegan – 111
      Liddell – 138
      Cox – 156
      Gerrard – 257

      Second 35;
      Suarez – 31
      Raybould – 41
      Hunt – 47
      Hodgson – 47
      Chambers – 58
      Parkinson – 58
      Torres – 58
      Rush – 60
      Fowler – 68
      Stubbins – 68
      Barnes – 70
      Balmer – 75
      Dalglish – 76
      Owen – 76
      Toshack – 83
      Liddell – 84
      St John – 86
      Forshaw – 105
      Gerrard – 108
      Cox – 125
      Keegan – 130

      Total 70;
      Hunt – 103
      Raybould – 104
      Suarez – 109
      Parkinson – 112
      Torres – 114
      Hodgson – 116
      Fowler – 121
      Chambers – 125
      Rush – 126
      Stubbins – 126
      Dalglish – 141
      Owen – 142
      St John – 157
      Barnes – 168
      Toshack – 179
      Balmer – 184
      Forshaw – 199
      Liddell – 222
      Keegan – 241
      Cox – 281
      Gerrard – 365

Fantastic achievement from somebody who was questioned whether or not he was actually a goalscorer. (something I questioned meself I admit)

Incredibly fast second 35 goals by Suarez.

Pity Aldridge didn't manage 70 goals because he scored at a very good rate too. I think he would be close to Torres on his first 35 goals.

      Great post DLS!

I think it's safe to say that, should he stay that long, he will be the quickest ever liverpool player to reach 100 goals.

Be interesting to see how many points BR got in his first season and a half compared to Benitez, Woy, and Dalglish

He'll be top of the list when it gets to the first 100 goals. And eventually he'll be the top scorer of all time for LFC. Mark my words.

Interesting comparison between his first 35 and second 35.

Do people think that's because he's settled down, become a better goalscorer, and is playing more as a team player? Or maybe it's indicative of the improvement the whole team has made?

Maybe he will be the fastest to 100, maybe he wont. What im sure is about him scoring the most quality 70 of all time for us. Watching a compilation i realized almost 60-70% could be called world class goals.

And it would be interesting to add up his assists. I still remember Dirks abd Stevies hat tricks against scum and bitters handed on a plate for them by luis.

Its weird, but i think he is actually trying NOT to place his shots do well now, and focusing on just scoring. He tried to put the ball so close to the posts he ended up hitting them quite often. Too good. Now he is ruthless

The most complete forward in the world.

      Me too Bill.

I cannot think of a Liverpool striker, in my time anyway, who can do what he can do. He can score poacher's goals, he can head, he is a free kick specialist, he can beat men and create, score the spectacular, score the even more spectacular - he can do the lot. Only Fowler comes to mind when comparing but I think Luis edges him with regards to taking on players although Fowler wasn't bad at that either.

The way Suarez is getting with his free kicks they may as well be classed as penalties, expect it to go in everytime he steps up to take one.

I think his reason for his success in the past 35 games is down to him playing consecutive games. He is currently settled, playing week in, week out and all he has had to do is play football. Shouldn't speak to soon but he hasn't had to deal with any crap lately apart from success with the club, which is fantastic.

Previously, with all of his incidents he couldn't play consistently. It was very stop and start which affected his goal tally significantly, but now If he can keep on maturing his future looks really bright.
