I'm certainly not defending how we act in certain transfers but I take with a pinch of salt where information comes from and to who's benefit it is to leak that information.

How about Brendan said to the board " get me Salah or Konoplyanka, either one would do nicely" and the board said "ok, we'll try for the one with the lower asking price first"

But then Chelsea came in, maybe offered Salah ridiculous wages - or maybe he just preferred Chelsea - so now we are going for Konoplyanka.
Don't see why it has to be any more complicated than that.

Anyway we've not signed him yet so we will see.
As others have said I think a CM is more of a priority, but if he's good he's good.

Thinking about it, I wonder if Brendan is thinking of playing just 2 CM's, with Coutinho in the hole behind a lone striker, and 2 wide men.
Might explain why we are goin for this guy rather than a CM. (Its kind of how we played last night actually)

Coutinho played centrally as one of two advanced midfield players and one holding (or one advanced, two holding)... three in front [Suarez, Sturridge and Konoplyanka(?)] Just like last night in fact [Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling]

Liverpool manager Rafa Benítez was clearly impressed with Voronin, saying:

    "He is clever, has great game awareness and gives us so many more options in attack. He can play behind a main striker, lead the line himself, or come into the attack from the flanks."

 

This would be a good signing, would still like a good solid CM/CDM as well though, a loan will do.

In terms of Ukranians - I hate to say it but Kanchelskis did ok with that mob and that other mob.

Liverpool representatives are flying out to Ukraine as we speak to continue talks and try and finalise the deal! Confirmed by Sky Sports just now! 

Can't see Ayre or FSG allowing this one to F**k up, given recent terrible PR over transfers. That, allied with Rodgers in a strong position with the team and standing with fans after last night, means that i'm very, very confident this deal is going to happen.

So where will he play? It's not like we have a lot of gaps in the attacking third with Sterling, Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge all fit and playing well.

It's the Ukrainian messi....just getting in there first before someone else says that.
