Liverpool Football Club today announced that they will take part in a post-season fixture against Shamrock Rovers in Dublin.
The game will be played at 5.30pm on May 14th at the Aviva Stadium.
“We are looking forward to coming back to Dublin again this year to play in front of our Irish fans,” claimed Billy Hogan, the club’s chief commercial officer. “The club enjoys incredible support in Ireland and we thank the Football Association of Ireland for their support in staging the game.”
Liverpool last met Shamrock Rovers – Ireland’s most successful club side with 17 league titles - 32 years ago in a friendly match at Milltown, Dublin. The game, on November 23rd 1982, ended in a 1-1 draw with Ian Rush scoring for the Reds and Jim Beglin – who would go on to become Bob Paisley’s final signing – playing for the Hoops.
“I played in that game against Shamrock Rovers over three decades ago and I remember scoring that goal,” Rush told LFCtour.com. “It’ll be great to play them again and this time hopefully we’ll come away with a win.”
Shamrock Rovers chairman Jonathan Roche added: “We are delighted to be taking on Liverpool in this high profile game at the Aviva Stadium. It will see two clubs with strong histories of success and great fans face each other in what should be an entertaining game of football and a great occasion. It will be a great game for our players to be involved in and also a good day out for our fans and Irish supporters of Liverpool, many of whom are also SSE Airtricity League supporters.”

Liverpool FC will also have an allocation of tickets available for this match which will go on sale on Monday. Full details will be made available before Monday.
