Maybe Sammy is always destined to only be a No.2

So maybe he could be Rafa's number 2...not sure whether it would work though. :-\

Rafa certainly has his own way of doing things, and he may not want Sammy's ex Liverpool way of doing things interfering with his current thinking??

Indeed, that is the quandary. Would be great to have this guy's passion back with us, tho.

the players insisted that they were fine with him

What people say & what people think are often two entirely different things. Rumour has it that the final straw was him dropping Speed & Nolan from the team, and that he had lost a lot of respect from the sqaud.

I feel for Sammy today but I believe he may have taken on too much too early. Good luck to him for the future though. Hopefully he's learnt a lot from his time at Bolton and he'll use it to his advantage.

Would anyone like to see him back at Anfield?

Nothing to loose by bringing Sammy back. He was involved as a player and was part of the Houllier era and there's nothing that he has not seen already as a player and a member of the management team. If there's any truth to the rumours that Rafa could not deal with the players on a personal term, perhaps bringing Sammy back may help as players tend to respect the asst. mgr whom was a player before. He tends to get involve very much throughout a game at the by-line, jumping up and down, that's what we like to see urging the players on and we have seen him doing just that already during his tenure here before the sacking of Houlier.

      Good coach, crap manager.

Honestly, It was only a matter of time before he was sacked. And don't give me any rubbish about "mutual consent". His annoying face talking about the "positives" of every Bolton game was getting on my nerves. As for bringing him to Liverpool, I'm split on that one...
