Liverpool eye Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez - and 'hope to do deal after World Cup'

          By Chris Richards

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing an £18 million swoop for Barcelona ace Alexis Sanchez.

Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to have run the rule over the Chilean forward, 25, as he prepares to boost his squad for a return to the Champions League next season.

The player is said to want to quit Barca because he wants to start more games.

However, according to the Daily Star Sunday, a deal won't be concluded until after Sanchez plays for Chile at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The player, who can operate either as a striker or on the wing, cost Barca £25million when he moved from Udinese.

He earns £90k-a-week at the Nou Camp.

Sanchez gave a memorable performance when Chile defeated England at Wembley in November, scoring both his side's goals in a 2-0 win.

      Never happen, too many SASAS's.

      Nice if it did though.

I think he's great, very underrated. Would love him here. 18 million would be a steal.

No way he is leaving for 18mil and have to say he has been pretty good this season, rounding it off with a stupendous goal.

      18million... haha, not a chance

I highly doubt it will happen but if we bought both him and Lallana we would have six top-class interchangeable options to play as part of a front three.

Coutinho, Sturridge, Sterling, Lallana, Suarez, Sanchez

      That would be a dream!

He would cost £30-£35m, maybe £40m at most. Would be money well spent

Been watching him since he joined Barca and I believe he is better than Bale. We would have the best group of attacking players in the world if we bought this fella.

Think you'd have to be abit crackers not wanting to see this lad in Red. Can't see us getting him for £18 million mind you.

Yep quality player. I honestly can't believe the amount of players that are being linked with a move away from Barca:

      Fabregas
      Pedro
      Iniesta
      Mascherano
      Tello

Which just makes me believe it's crap and filling column inches.

At the moment I'd be delighted with any 2 from:

Muller, Kroos, Hummels, Javi Martinez, Lallana, Fabregas, Pedro, Sanchez, Reus.

In no particular order or preference, they are the level we need to be aiming at though.

Good player but not what we need.

If they are selling him for a ridiculous price we should do the deal but there isn't much scope for wasting too much of the budget trying to chase him.

Yes because if we get him we can't possibly go get any of our other "needs".

You should really get a front office job at LFC, you are quite the footballing genius.

A player I would love us to sign, wanted us to sign him from Udinese before he went to Barca and I think we were linked to him on a number of occasions. Really don't know what sort of fee Barca would demand for him though, one minute he is a key player and the next he's warming the bench. Unfortunately I think it would be another David Villa, be linked with him and we would all love to sign him but it wont ever actually happen.

Whether we get him or not, good to see us being linked to this category of player. To be honest, haven't seen enough of him lately to be able to say good signing at that price.

I saw him play a few times for Udinese but haven't seen much of him recently - though I understand he has been better for Barca after coming in from the flanks more. he has a low centre of gravity and quick acceleration though his pace isn't as fast as many believe - Serie A being a relatively slow league. I've seen him get manhandled and knocked off the ball but I don't know if he has improved in that aspect.

As you say the chances of getting him are pretty low and I would prioritise getting a "controlling" DM, a versatile 10, two fullbacks and a pacy centre back ahead of him.

Not at any price in my opinion, the rest of my quote was:

Good player but not what we need.
