Liverpool close in on deal for Southampton striker Rickie Lambert
Liverpool FC are closing in on a deal to sign Southampton striker Rickie Lambert.

The ECHO understands the fee for the boyhood Reds fan will be around £4million plus add-ons.

Telegraph supposedly reporting 7m fee agreed...word is his fee is higher to keep Lallana's fee lower due to Bournemouth's recoup amount.

Well this move's come out of left field! I'm sort of indifferent to Lambert. Could be a good -- and different -- option, but also don't care if we miss out tbh.

Those numbers sound a bit better than £9 million! I'm not sure about the Lallana talk and the size of the fee though. I reckon nothing will happen on that front until after the World Cup meself.

4m for an England international sounds pretty stinking good to me.

£4m for an English striker is a steal. He may be 32, but hey, he only made his England début on 8 August 2013.

Better back up than Aspas, that's for sure. Could be a good plan B for Brendan given his aerial threat also.

This one came out of nowhere! Good player in my opinion, and he offers us a 'plan B' of sorts whilst being well capable of fitting in with plan A if needed.

Plus if we get Lambert and Lallana then it'll reduce the chance of United getting Shaw.

If we get Lallana and Lambert, they have pretty much a telepathic understanding. They assist each other a lot, know each other's runs, etc.

      Could be very, very good.

Someone just posted on social media(don't know which one) that its 9 million for Lambert, 20 million for Lovren and 2 million for lallana ( so they don't have to pay a big sell on fee to bournmouth) don't know how true that is though.

Rumours are we're getting Lallana and Dejan Lovren for £31m too.

Surely not! They will be slitting their wrists down here! My next door neighbour was a steward at the Dell and St Mary's for 20 years and he was disconsolate as I told him the breaking news on Lambert. I cant imagine they would sell 3 of their 5 best players (with Shaw and Sneidelen) in one hit given that the manager has just gone

Said I was staying out of the transfer thread and I am but just thought this breaking story proves how the journos and the itk actually know sweet fook all on whats happening in the clubs transfer dealings. This wasn't once mentioned, straight out of left field nobody had a clue

For the price being mentioned and what he'd give it would be very shrewd business by the way

As one poster put it - shrewd signing. He'd cost next to nothing, is strong in the air, and has been called up to the England team for the world cup. He'd also be happy at coming off the bench. Definitely better than Aspas from what I've seen.

16 goals + 12 assists in 35 games last season.
Definitely worth a punt at the right price.

Absolutely worth signing to provide us the strength in depth. He could start a lot of matches on the bench which I'm sure he's aware of but the variety he offers could be pivotal. What a treat in comparison to having Aspas and Moses on the bench.
