Sickened that the USA let their lead slip last night. My worry now is that they looked exhausted in the second half and may not have time to recover before they play Germany.

Hopefully as Germany are already through they won't be too interested in this game and will play a weaker team.

Germany aren't already through though, if we beat them and Ghana wins with a large goal differential technically Germany is out I believe. Not likely but it's a permutation they have to prepare for. Not to mention, even a weakened Germany could be a considerable challenge for the US.

I ain't mad. To give up the equalizer in the 94th minute was a bit gutting, but the US was immense yesterday. The midfield greatly improved from the Ghana match, the little flicks all came on and the combination plays was fluid. That's probably exactly what Kilinsmann had in mind when he put this side out.

Jermaine Jones played out of his skin, and Fabian Johnson is fantastic getting forward from RB -- especially since Portugal's left side wasn't playing defense at all (cough Ronaldo cough). He's gonna be a boss at Gladbach next season. Clint Dempsey has played like a F***ing captain too. Portugal's two goals came from a fluke miskick that perfectly fell to Nani and a world class cross from Ronaldo. An inch either side and it's cleared away.

The US can definitely get through though. A draw vs Germany is very possible (will both teams go balls out with the threat of injury and knowing a draw qualifies both?). A draw in Ghana-Portugal is also possible, not least because both teams absolutely HAVE to win that match. It's going to be a great final day in Group G.

This has been one of my favourite of the world cup groups.  Last night's game was well worth staying up for!  It's going to be fascinating to watch the Germany - USA fixture and see if they do play out the draw!

Can't believe how poor Portugal have been - personally I think the team ethic is not that great and that most of the players probably feel they are there to help Ronaldo become an all time great.

Just hasn't worked out that way.

UEFA's confederation has taken something of a bashing in this tournament - any idea if this is likely to affect numbers included for the next World Cup?

Pretty amazing to look at the CONCACAF teams in it so far. Costa Rica is through, and Mexico and the U.S. just need a draw to go through.

Honduras can still go through as well if they beat Switzerland by a couple and France give Ecuador a good beating.

Costa Rica are the most amazing thing of this World Cup so far.

Ronaldo has been poor! Portugal would be better off without him, they might all start playing as a team then instead of constantly looking for Ronaldo. His free kicks are amusing though, the one in the first half where he spent ages lining it up, standing there like he had sh*t himself and taking deep breaths to then sky it well over the goal made me chuckle.

Yes, Ghana are far better than the team that beat them whilst playing one of the worst games I've seen us play in a long time. :lmao:

Yes, far better than the US. Ghana completely outplayed the US in that game, but the US got a goal on a break away. A sucker punch.

Ghana completely outplayed the US in the 2010 World Cup too (and won that game), so it's not a surprise.

Scoring in the first 30 seconds isn't a "sucker punch." It's starting out of the blocks well. And it wasn't even a breakaway, either. It was a throw-in from Beasley to Jones to Dempsey. That's just factually incorrect.

Nothing wrong with Brooks' winner either. Next time, Ghana should trying marking on set pieces.

Also, wouldn't say Ghana is "far better" than the US; they're pretty close to being evenly matched. I think Ghana is better in terms of talent, but the US works as an overall unit better.

Ghana f**king up it seems, Boateng and Muntari send home just hours before the game, suspended indefinitely. It's a mess in that team, the team went on strike tuesday because they hadn't recieved their money yet, then Ghana flew in 3 million in cash on a plane to pay them. These kind of distractions really don't help, normally I expected them to win against Portugal tonight but now less so.

Could have huge implications for the yanks now.

This from BBC Sport's Ben Smith on Twitter: "Torrential rain in Recife. Streets like rivers. #USAvsGER kicks off in three and a half hours."

The weather looks a bit dodgy for the yanks too.

Gonna be a tough ask to get a point against the Germans.....hopefully Portugal can help us out by putting away Ghana by just a small margin.

Although...after Portugal scored the other night I got a really bad feeling that it was going to come back to haunt us......:(

      USA through . WOO HOO

Bit nervy there for awhile, until Portugal went ahead 2-1

Have to give them credit.  Didn't think we'd survive this group when the draw was made.

      So. F***ing. Happy. right now!

Didn't play well, besides Tim Howard and Jermaine Jones -- again! -- but the US were definitely the second-best team in the group and deserve to advance to the knockout stages. First time we've ever gotten out of the group in consecutive World Cups. Klinsmann endured a lot of criticism (some of it OTT), but he deserves loads of credit for getting the US out of that group when no one gave them a chance.

Potential matchup with Belgium next. That's actually a winnable game for the US. Belgium are much, much more talented, but they haven't exactly played well. Should be a good one.
