Mash with an awesome bit of defensive midfield play, well in that man.

Turned over to the radio just to hear Alan Green's opinion on the match. Predictably and rightly calls it 'an apology of a football match. Abysmal.'

Honestly we could tell after about half an hour that this was going straight to penalties - why waste everyone's time? (Hoping to jinx it so we can actually see a goal)

Germany will win, but want to see Messi do it. Happy for Masch but feel gutted for Dirk.

Usually love Holland and I feel bad for them, but F***ing Van Gaal has put me off them this year, with his football and him generally.

Can see why Van Gaal subbed Cillessen for the last shoot-out, he was terrible I'm afraid. It wont shock anyone to hear he's never saved a pen, got to save a couple of those.

Van Gaal though, why would you send Vlaar up as your first taker, sends the wrong message completely and his run up was far too straight had one of those David Batty, Gareth Southgate feel about it, you knew he'd miss.

Thought the Argies at the start of the tournament would win it, Germany have been the team of the tournament though and suspect they will actually manage to break down that defence.

I feel van Gaal's tactics were spot on, and long may he carry on making those decisions.

Masch is still a monster in the defensive midfield role!

Shame we didn't keep Kuyt and play him as a right back :D

I wanted Holland to win, but when it came to penalties, I changed my allegiance. I am neutral after all.

After Holland's disgraceful penalties victory against Costa Rica, I didn't want to see them win again. Glad Argentina stuck it to them! (although I did want Kuyt to score his).

Holland were very poor in the game, and it was a poor game all round really. Boring even.

      Bye bye van Gaal.

Agree with a lot of posts here. Abysmal match.

Talk about a sh*t 24 hours for Brazil though: Humiliated on home soil by the Germans, huge rivals Argentina go on to play for the World Cup at the Maracana. Yowza.

Definitely! Easily. The defeat in 1950 was a huge shock but it was a circumstantial defeat. Today was total and pure humiliation.

I'm obviously not happy but I can see the beauty in that - Germany are fantastic. What a team. They just wrote history today, people will talk about this game for decades.

It was simply the worst defeat in Brazil's history. Not just in World Cup, but also friendlies, and other competitions. That in a World Cup semifinal, in home soil. It's unbeliveable.

I wasn't confident going into that match and there is a general consensus that a close defeat (a 2-1 maybe?) would be seen as acceptable, though disappointing (a bit like Germany's defeat to Italy in 2006). But this... this is a total shock.

Credit to Germany for re-thinking their football and reaping the benefits, while Brazil keeps living from the past (Felipão and Parreira together, two manager who stopped in time)

7-1. Wow! I hope Germany win the whole thing now. They deserve it. The most likable team in this competition as I've said before and when they're on the top of their game, they're a joy to watch.

      Hello Diego.

I told you I was going to have the last laugh didn't I lad?

I will be the bigger man and  refrain though from your childish "nah nah's" and ;D's and ROFL's. So that is all I will say to you.

Regarding the game not surprised in the slightest by that mauling although 7-1 was never a score anybody would have predicted. That was a very poor Brazilian side that rode on the back of the host nation euphoria and the expectation of their fans, coupled with a bit of a push from FIFA through dodgy refreeing decisions. In hindsight the Confederations Cup hurt Brazilian football and did more harm then good in the long run, it masked the deficiencies of the squad, Scolari and the structure of the national team.

For me another telling factor is the modern day football "mercenaries" who are attracted to the riches of Russian football as opposed to testing their mettle in stronger leagues across Europe. The Willains, Fernandinho's, Hulks and Bernard's even though the first 2 have a year of PL under their belt. There are 12 Brazilian's in Shaktar's squad for further reference.

An absolute shocking performance from Luiz who has made a living of a "false center back" meaning a litany of horrendous positioning, marking and tackling errors but expertly disguised through good technical abillity and vision to pick the odd pass and score a worldly goal. The fee paid by PSG is disgraceful, Luiz though has been made the scapegoat but just as poor were a few very over rated domestic and international football players Fernandinho, Marcelo, Dante etc.

Absolute snooze fest the Dutch-Argie game should have just gone straight to penalties as both were set up for it after the half hour mark.

Observations from the Argentina - Holland game.

Mascherano is a beast. Even when Robben broke through... who was there .. Masch. He was so fired, it was great to see.

Kuyt.. love him.. played very clever and worked a couple of openings without losing his defensive shape. You can see why Rafa loved these guys.

      Well done Maxi.

I love the Dutch and penalties. They miss and they just say 'f*ck it'. Robben wasn't phased and he won't get another chance on this stage.

      How cool is Sabella!

I really like the Argentina GK, Sergio Romero. Does anyone know much about him and whether he's better than our current keepers?
