When was the last time you were overwhelmed in a transfer window? As I can't remember any proven world class players arriving for quite a while to LFC. Truth is we make superstars not buy them in, your probably young and will realise this over time.

True. But I can't remember us winning the league for quite a while either. Perhaps a world class signing can make the difference for us this season.

We had the worlds 3rd best player and still did not win the league..........so maybe not!

Don't get me wrong I would love Reus here.

      Him or Falcao please!

We still have about £60 mil to spend don't we? Sell Borini, Assaidi, etc. and buy a new fullback and one of the above.

We most definitely still need another top-end forward with Suarez gone.

In theory it should be more.

      Addition BT money - £40m
      Champions league - £30m
      Our usual kitty - £30m

Cannot see £100m being spent though.

According to Bild he's rejected a new contract. If this isn't an indication of a willingness to move, I don't know what is. Go get him boys ;)

Wev had a world class steven gerrard for the last ten years. Wev always had one or two world class individuals in there with him. And the problem is where are the superstars now? They all fook off cos we dont buy proven top players. Again im not complaining about the players wev bought they could all turn out to be fantastic buys but itd be nice for us too make a statement and buy a top player like reus. And btw im 26 so iv supported this club long enough to know how it works.

Fans: please spend every single cent we have and all on good players. We wanted the league title yesterday.

Owners: we need to be sustainable.  There's next year and the year after to think about. Includes stadium development.

Which I discussed yesterday with another forum user and hence why I believe we won't spend anywhere near that sum..

I agree, Suarez is very very good but those 2 are geniuses, you could actually stake a claim for Bale being better or as good as well after a season in La Liga.

Is there any reason, apart from shutting up appeasing fans, that we should spend every penny?  I know I'll be disappointed if we don't bring in at least one full back, but the number of additions can also unbalance a team.

Fans are short sighted and most cannot see their club's business beyond the squad. Sponsorships, keeping funds for transfers for next year and beyond, international fan base etc. are never in these fans' minds. Which is why BR made it a point to tell us that he won't be spending on transfers for the sake of it.

It's clear as day we still need a LB, RB and a proven goal scorer. That's a minimum three more players required if we are to challenge this season. Reus is a proven goal scorer and incredibly creative just like Luis was. If there is any chance we can sign him even if it's upwards to £50 million then we need to make it happen. He is one of the very few players in the world actually worth that price and we have the funds.

I cannot see us spending large amounts but it's pretty obvious we still need two or three players. Imo two fullbacks and one forward seeing that Remy is no longer joining the club. We cannot have Enrique or Johnson as our first choice fullbacks, and we need decent support for Sturridge.

It's called "quality", something we're in short supply of in the team. We simply do not have world class players in the team any more. Gerrard is too old, others are too young. We don't have to spend every penny but that's something Rodgers should have thought about before over spending on Lallana and Lovren; both good players but not value for money at their respective fees. Marco Reus (amongst a couple of other names) represents the level of quality that we need to drive us forward and he could replace Luis in many of his not so obvious areas (i.e. everything other than goal scoring). If driving us forward with real quality means we have to spend what's left of the budget then so be it. Granted he may not be interested in joining us but that's no reason not to try.

I think this is how the purchase can be justified.
      1) at £50m, Reus is a much stronger player than Fernando Torres. So it's inexcessive.
      2) skill level is as good as Luis yet cheaper than >£70m.
      3) we can pay £50m but we'll insert a £80m release clause for a 60% return on investment.
      4) deal is financed by Barca's Luis money, but Ian Ayre to work harder and bring in 10 more £5m sponsorship deals.

Done. Subject to BR, player and medical.

      Why £50m?!?!

thought he had 30m Euro release clause? (£26m)
