I agree 100% - his scoring record is terrible... and thats in France where any striker can look half decent...

Well he took his chance well today - ya know what they say......today is the first day of the rest of your career.

Is right. 1 in 1 so far. Couldn't honestly give a damn what his record has been like so long as he smashes them in for us.

Watching that second half today reminded me of the Origi we saw at the World Cup: Strong, fast, making runs and a real hard worker, but ultimately still a bit raw. I really like the look of him, though.

Haha get what you're saying mate but that reply was a response to the pessimistic outlook of the poster, seemed like a bitter opinion.

He didn't disappoint at all yesterday, he's our Sturridge clone although still a bit raw.  He'll be a handful in the PL and give opposition defenses something to think about for once.

It's really hard to judge a player against a team like Thailand All Stars but if he can carry on with that energy and effort then he'll do his chances of being in the first 11 no harm at all. He was better than Ings and Lambert IMO.

His stats are shocking... not pessimism, but actual Fact

Until I see a change in his form, I dont think he has a lot to offer other than pace. All this based on what hes produced to date.

So am I pessimistic?  No, Im a realist.

That goal in Thailand was the change in form that did it for me, no doubt the majority who saw him play are optimistic about his future prospects.

Just rewatching the 2nd half from yesterday and the power on that header was superb from a standing jump.

I got the impression last season that his head was already at Liverpool, that's why he didn't light up the French league.
That goal yesterday was one if a player that knows where the goal is, his positioning was great, why couldn't Mario be more like that?

I'm feeling optimistic about this kid can't wait to see him play.

On a side note, is it just me, or since the Suarez race row, have we tried to sign as many black players as possible?  :)

I never bought into this worst French XI to be fair.Thought it to be just some bullshit.

He would make a fine striker for us.

What are everyone's first impressions of Origi now we have seen him in a few pre-season games? He's taken a bit of criticism from Lawrenson and Fowler during commentary and interviews on the tour, much of it on the money for my book. The main criticism has been about his instincts in the box ie. that he has looked quite flat footed, slow to react to what might happen, not attacking the right spaces when crosses come into the box. He was played in with a lovely through ball (from Henderson I think) in the last game and one on one with the keeper and he looked pretty lost (in stark contrast to Ings In the previous game) and fluffed the chance. He looks like he has plenty to offer outside of the box but a real project to turn him into a genuine goal threat in the EPL. I'm hoping they Robbie god work with him for a few sessions. Personally I was a bit miffed that Ings has seen less minutes than Origi on this tour, I would have liked to have seen more of the lad.
