      Alex Song (FC Barcelona)
      Aug 15, 2014 06:28:30 pm
      From the Echo gossip section:

The Mirror also report that Liverpool are set to make a shock move for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

The Cameroonian is thought to be up for sale at the Camp Nou and it is reported that Liverpool will turn to the 26-year-old either on-loan or on a permanent deal should Lucas Leiva leave the club.

Song is thought to be keen on a move back to the Premier League.

I really rated Alex Song during his last season at Arsenal. If we were to sell Lucas, I feel he would be a decent replacement.

Apparently it says something along the lines of: an offer could be accepted within hours and while Galatasaray have also made a bid, a switch to Merseyside is the most obvious. Source - Sport (Catalan newspaper)

      I'd prefer Khedeira.

If Lucas leaves I would prefer Khedira, but no doubt I would take Song. He would be a sound replacement for Lucas. Would love to keep Lucas though.

I'd take him even with Lucas staying although I can't imagine there'd be room for both.

I thought he was a good player at Arsenal. He looked a bit out of place at first but he progressed well and became an important part of their team. He hasn't played much since but could be a good addition.

Not keen on Song at all, I think he is lazy and quite frankly, from what I have seen, couldn't give a sh*t about his team. I think he proved that when he got sent off against Croatia in the World Cup.

Lucas for Song seems a reasonable swap in player quality to be fair and i reckon Song is a bit more mobile, i am all for keeping Lucas but if he wants to go, Song is an appropriate replacement.

What about all the hundreds of players that have been sent off in the past? What he did was shocking but we've experienced worse at our club mate. In the heat of the moment players and people outside of football do incredibly stupid and aggressive things.

Would prefer to keep Lucas, he brings so much composure when on the ball and would be key in possession play. I think his link up play with Coutinho is fantastic, and if played regularly, I can see him and Coutinho controlling the midfield. I really think he has a lot more to offer. Would be disappointed if he left :(

There is no way Lucas is a better option than Alex Song. I struggle to comprehend how people can't admit that Lucas just ain't of the required standard any more.

I read somewhere today that Lucas has contacted Rafa and told him he'd be up to a move to Napoli (sorry no link). Maybe that's why we are looking at Song because Lucas wants to leave. I think Lucas is a lot better than people give him credit. Song is a decent replacement but not sure he has enough desire to play for us. Maybe because he played CB more than DM? I don't know really.

Great player, would love him here.

If Lucas goes, then Stevie, Henderson, Allen and Can is a bit light for four competitions in midfield.  Song would be a very good addition.

      Agree Fed.

I'd have him here even if Lucas was to stay.

Can't see it, and don't really think we need him either based on current players / higher priority to fill other position.

Maybe Suarez is telling Song about how great it is at Liverpool?...

I'd much rather we bring Khedeira in if I'm honest, Song for me has a lazy trait about him and doesn't strike me as BR type fit, also wouldn't he be off playing in the African nations thingy too,?

Nah Khedeira would be my choice if Lucas said Caio !

Some Barcelona fans I know would wrap him up in a box and deliver him to Melwood straight away, i think that's harsh, would only consider this if Lucas was to go.

Song would not be a bad option at all. More mobile than Lucas and would enable us to play Can a little higher up the pitch instead of as a Gerrard replacement.

That's a very good point when it comes to African players. It's every two years, I believe and smack bang in the middle of our season. Not to say I'd let that stand in the way of signing a good player but like others have said, sooner have Khedeira.

Javier Clemente said he was a better offensive midfielder then a defensive one and that wasn't knocking his defensive abilities
