Would have liked to seen Coutinho given another chance but Jose Allen it is. Expecting big things from him.

Nice to see some attacking quality on the bench at last. Quite a contrast from Moses and Aspas.

Think so re Coutinho mate. Want to see him with this XI in no.10 role.
Hope we not lack creativity without him.

Come on redmen, repeat last time score against them :)

Going to be a weird one in defence here. Not that confident, praying we sneak a win.

Get it done boys. Come on you Reds!

Am I the only one worried about us getting over run in the middle of the park? You to play two up top in this league, I think we managed it last year because both Suarez and Studge would pop up all over the place and both players worked their arses off when we lost the ball, particularly Luis. Can we make it work with Balo instead of Luis? I guess we'll find out but I would have preferred a 4-3-3 for this one.

At least Clint started the match thread!

Diamond leaves us three in midfield, so no, not really worried about us being overrun.

Gerrard distributes, Allen keeps it, Henderson wins it back. Almost the perfect combination.

Hadn't realised Skrtel would be out injured.
Good opportunity for Sakho, who to me looks our best CB. Be interesting to see how him and Lovren look together.

Strong starting line-up. Brendan needs to use the bench well as we tend to tire in the second half early on in the season.
We play well when we get our high pressing game going, and its hard to keep that up when the teams not yet up to 100% match fitness.
But our bench is a lot better than last year.

Will be  a tough game I think. Pochettino will have them harder to break down than last season.

Happy with that X1, thought Lallana would have made it, still, top side tho, going to be interesting watching the mad 1 making his bow and teaming up with Sturridge & Sterling,

Be tough today Spuds will want revenge from last season but I think we will be well up for it, hope wee Joe plays well he's an important cog in midfield,

I think the rest speak for themselves, glad to see Moreno at lwb and Manquillo at rwb, for me these two are shoe ins every week,  also feel this is sakho's big chance to cement a place alongside Lovren,

I think we will win this today, if we can play at a high tempo from the get go, put spuds on the back foot we will overrun them and prove too much for them, if we sit back we're asking for trouble,

      C'MON REDMEN. !!

      1-3

So nervous about this one now. Not gonna be an easy one with Pochetino in charge. Thought QPR rolled over on them, but its done their confidence the world of good - hope we shatter that for them.

Really need Sakho and Lovren to gel fast. They could be amazing together if Lovren plays well RCB. Heres hoping.

Gerrard need to drop deeper and receive the ball and get it moving forward to the likes of Studge and Sterling asap. We were way to slow with poor movement showing for the ball against City.

Pace kills and we have it in abundance - use it again.

Pretty much the team/formation [diamond] that I had hoped we would play with the exception of Allen - I'd have Can there for more 'bite' and cover. That said we have plenty of options to change should we need to.

My one fear was our over-reliance, on the tactic of Stevie's passing to wing-backs, leaving us short to the counter - hopefully the diamond will negate that.

      Let's tank these hoors.

My thoughts exactly BBB - especially regarding Can, would really like to see him let off the leash.

Big game for the midfield, they have to make sure we control the game. Tottenham will be pressing and getting in their faces so we need to make sure we can keep possession and dictate the tempo.

If we are unable to do that then I don't think we'll win. Big game for Sakho and Lovren.

Strong team for us, not going to get worried just because spurs dominated the entire pitch when they played QPR, we aren't f'n QPR.
Allen to score in this game I reckon.
I like the way the manager is stocking up in the CM to give them no way through.

So we've got three in the middle to deal with their three, who deals with their wide players?

Depends, Sterling might play central at the front of a diamond with Allen and Hendo providing cover for the fullbacks?

Allen for me, had a v good game vs Man City and I think he's more suited to a box-box role than Can. Would like to see Can tried out vs the weaker teams though.

Difficult one, Allen has a tendency to run into cul-de-sacs and doesn't have the best final ball. His defensive and other build up play is very good though.

I like the fact that we are clearly going for the win. Win here, and with the exception of Chelsea (who've had a piss easy start) we're right up there with everyone else.

Wow. Rodgers finally saw it. Too bad we had to get beat last week first. .. Johnson finally dropped. How does Balotelli and Sturridge fit in a 4-3-3?
