We should've signed Kenneth Vermeer for 1 million euros from Ajax, would have been an excellent backup keeper, very good sweeper keeper, might even have challenged Mignolet.

Valdes would displace Mignolet within a few weeks if he gets near the level he was at for Barcelona.

I am surprised about the general opinion about Valdes here in the forum. If healthy is a Top 5 keeper, he would have played for Spain in the WC this summer. He has everything, and is probably the best keeper in the world playing the ball with his feet. He is also a man that has always stepped up in the big scenario, if someone doesn't believe me check out any of the Barcelona's UCL finals he has played, always important.

My only doubt about him is his health, but if top form, he is way way better than Migs.

Sounds promising. Would like it wrapped up sooner rather than later if it's to be done.

Better than Jones, has massive experience. Migs will be under pressure, but should also learn from the older head. Win win.

Saw the video of that an hour or so ago, I'm surprised he doesn't hate us after that slip at Nou Camp when we beat them 2-1 :D

Could we not select a 24 man squad and then add him later, or, does the squad have to remain how it is once its confirmed?

I think we have space for 4 or 5 players in the squad due to the under 21 rule (I think)

As much as I don't really rate him he is easily better than Jones so still a signing I'd welcome at least to have some better cover for Migs.

Would be really happy with this. My opinions on Valdes have changed a bit over time but overall I think he's a top keeper. Never been among the best in the world but wasn't out of place in that great Barcelona teams either. If he gets back to full fitness and form, he could challenge Mignolet but anyway even if he's only coming as cover it will be great. I would hate if Mignolet suffered an injury and we had to use Jones on a regular basis.

      Totally agree Diego.
Certainly worth it on a 1 year deal.
      Hope it happens.

Never thought he was great to be honest and think the English league is very different for keepers than in Spain.  I'm not sure that I would be overly confident if he had to play for a longer spell.

Saw the block of flats he grew up in when was in Tenerife on my holidays. They love him there - goes back every year to sponsor summer camps for kids etc.

The block is now called Valdes Tower - damn should have taken a picture.

Pretty we can odd him whenever for the league but not for the CL, would have to wait until Feb for that.

"Damn" indeed Scotia - I'd really have loved to have seen that.    >:D

On Valdes: I was lucky enough to have seen him play live a few times when Barca were in their pomp and to be fair; I could have played in goals for them. Point being, even after watching him, I honestly don't know how good he is.

I'd take Valdes in an instant. Huge experience of Champions League nights and a winner of everything in the game. Would push Migs for a starting spot for sure and be a good guy to have around the place.

      Born winner!

It's actually the Valdes Center BBB, to correct myself. A mix of commercial properties and residential units.

What one might euphemistically describe as unprepossessing!

The family still live there apparently, despite his millions because that's their home...or at least that what we were told.

Really hope we sign him. His experience in the CL and tight title races could prove invaluable to us and would provide Mignolet the competition needed to stop him becoming lazy.

      Get him signed up asap!
