Liverpool 0-1 Villa: In game and Post Match Apocalypse
      Sep 13, 2014 04:30:04 pm

      Anfield this afternoon

Starting XI: Mignolet, Manquillo, Moreno, Lovren, Sakho, Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana, Balotelli

Subs: Jones, Enrique, Lucas, Toure, Sterling, Lambert, Borini

Summer signing Adam Lallana makes his Liverpool debut against Aston Villa at Anfield this evening, with fellow new recruits Mario Balotelli, Lazar Markovic and Alberto Moreno also making their first appearances at home.

Kopites can take a first look at the former Southampton midfielder in red as the England international returns to full fitness after missing the entirety of pre-season and the start of the new campaign with injury.

Balotelli and Moreno are handed maiden run-outs in L4 after initial starts for the club at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City respectively, while Markovic is selected in Brendan Rodgers' XI for the first time.

Joe Allen and Daniel Sturridge are two who miss out for fitness reasons, and Philippe Coutinho is also brought back into the side as Raheem Sterling is included among the substitutes.

Looking forward to seeing Lallana play. Good too see Brendan isn't overplaying Raheem too.

No qualms about the starting 11, but would have liked to have seen Suso on the bench :)

Not thrilled with our lineup tbh. I still think we have too much for Villa, but not as confident as I would have been if Brendan had picked the same team as I did (Sterling instead of Markovic)

      Great OP that Clint!

Should be a strong enough team that but I'd have gone for Sterling over Coutinho/Markovic.

Gamble dropping/resting Sterling.  Hope it pays off.

I'm glad Markovic has got his chance and I'm glad we've got the squad so we can afford to rest players.

Not too surprised to see Sterling being rested, I would of figure either him or Henderson would of been giving a rest looking towards the UCL (Giving they both played 2 international games) and with Allen getting hurt mid-week the choice was easy to make. This gives the likes of Coutinho and Markovic a shot to prove their worth

Great X1, isn't brilliant we can rest players without affecting the system meaning we maintain consistency,  very excited to see Lallana & Markovic,  also chuffed coutinho is back, looking forward to seeing us handing Villa a battering.

      3-0 Redmen at least.!

Chris Bevan previewing the game for BBC, and all he's on about is LFC failing to sell enough Balotelli shirts (getting a dig at Ayre) and now announcing that LFC have run out of the letter "L" to print shirts... ... seriously? What's his problem?

Surprised to see Sterling rested but understand why BR has done so. At least we have the strength in depth and can afford to rest Sterling.

Happy to see Lallana making his debut and Markovic starting for his home debut. Mario to get his first goal for us. I think it'll be tough start but if we can get an early goal or 2 I think we can break them down and get the win.

My main worry is that there are a lot of relative newbies in the team.... it may take a while for them to gain an understanding.
