No we didn't buy too many. The squad needed significant numbers over the summer, and that's what we got.

The problem now is we're not creating chances. And no matter how big or short your squad is, if you're not creating chances, you'll never score goals.

Take the game at West Ham after 82 minutes. There we were desperately needing a goal, and you'd think we were 5-0 up with all the aimless passing going on round the centre circle. There was no urgency to get it into the last third and get the equaliser. When we finally do get it up there, we hit a brick wall around the penalty area, and have to win the ball back and start again. Look at the amount of times we have possession in the opposition half, only to send the ball back to Mignolet. Now that's fair enough if we're winning, but when we're not, how are we supposed to win games or get results playing like that? That doesn't need Luis Suarez or signing marquee players to fix, that can be fixed from the sideline.

In short, we've stopped playing the football that worked last year, and that's why we are where we are.

All that's true but it's a result of not signing a top class goal scorer in the Summer coupled with loosing Danny to injury. There was no movement in midfield because no one up front was making any runs for the midfield to play balls in to. Balotelli is a player that uses his strength to hold up the ball or turn the man and take a pop at goal. He couldn't do either because he was the furthest man up top so no one was running on the overlap and because no one was running on the overlap, West Ham (and Villa before them) were free to man mark him out of the game. Balotelli would have been a fine signing in place of Lambert (whom I like and have nothing against) if we had secured the services of a top goal scorer and all that's down to our buying quantity over quality in the Summer.

What top goal scorer was available in the summer though? That's something I don't get when people go on about we should of bought better quality... there isn't a load of strikers out there who are assured to hit the ground running and be automatically brilliant when they come to us.
Even as a huge fan of Liverpool... we can't just snap our fingers and players just drop any loyalty or chance of silverware with the club they are at.
Like if someone says we should have bought Reus instead on Lallana or Markovic for instance, how the hell can we presume they'd be available or just ditch their obligations because what? They like our emblem or something?

We love passing the ball here but there has to be a purpose to it. Passing for passing sake when we're losing with 10 minutes to go is useless. There's a time and a place for it, and that isn't it.

West Ham are a pub side that play sh*t football, and they're one of many in the league. You don't need to sign world class players to beat them. What you do need is to create chances for the players you do have to score against them. Other teams have been there and done it, that's what we have to do. We're not doing that atm, and no matter how much or little you spend, if you're not creating chances, you can't score goals, you can't win games, and the only direction you'll go is nowhere.

Other clubs 'make' their target available mate. LFC never went around trying to sell Suarez but Barca or R.Madrid prepared themselves ready for player to choose them once player want to leave. Bale, Ronaldo, Costa, Kroos were the similar example, and Reus now linked with move to R.madrid -why not Liverpool ?

Us, players available out there to take - Sanchez, Di Maria, Cesc, Remy etc we still fail to pick one, let alone try to make one 'available'.

We should of definitely planned to fill a Suarez shaped hole in the team with at least one known super talent, thing is; I don't think there are/were as many options available in the whole world right now.
Some of these players may have just wanted to live in London or Madrid and Remy.. I think maybe he failed a drug test because of how it was so secretive, that was my first thought, not sure why.
It's tricky, Falcao wanted ridiculous money and that wasn't an option. Maybe a team with real title aspirations to not regress after nearly winning the league would have at least paid him on a yearly basis.
Even if we did amazing last year, maybe the name Liverpool fc doesn't quite have the allure it once had at this point in time. to these big names.
Also if we never had the injury pile up we had maybe we'd be here talking about us being higher in the table and some new players looking better and better as they become more accustomed to the managers tactics and league.
the two wing backs look to be inspired choices, better than big name Shaw.
Balo looked to be a opportunity not to miss.
Can may become a beast etc
It's too early for me to write off our new signings as lesser than more touted or hyped names.
Suarez was never replaceable, Falcao was probably the only goal machine with some similar skills. It was always going to be a case of us not playing the same game plan without Suarez here.
I'm not playing devils advocate defending the owners here, I thought we spent well. The deciding factor will be how many goals Mario ends up getting this season.
Sturridge getting injured really has harmed our win rate too.
