So we need to get a result against the Luds, hope that Madrid turn up vs Basel, then its a 'winner takes all' game at Anfield (not unlike Olympiakos....) to go through to the knock out stage

Would rather we had more points in the bag, but I'll take the above chance right now

Don't think anyone would have taken that when the draw was made but I do agree. To play so poorly for 3 games, score just twice and still have qualification in your own hands is pretty remarkable. Just hope we take full advantage and actually turn up for the Ludo match.

Steven didn't play wide right or behind Torres really with Lucas in the side

It was the Macherano/Alonso partnership behind them for much of that period

Rafa played Stevie in those positions because he didn't trust him to hold position.Lucas did play enough games with Stevie and they weren't his best because he was left exposed too often especially with his lack of pace.

In terms of opportunities the game hasn't been different from the one played at Anfield, but the team definitely showed improvements in terms of a team playing football.
Losing 1-0 to the current Real is definitely an honorable defeat, also important for the goal difference.
To go through now you have to beat Ludogorets and Basel at least 2-0 at Anfield, to be sure.
The qualification is well within reach.

As much as I criticise Migs, he made 8 saves last night.

Couldn't fault him to be honest, some of those saves were excellent.

one question I have about last night and two weeks ago is this.
When we were beating everyone in sight by big margins at time we would have been looking to really get stuck into RM and give them a lesson.
So in just a few short months we have gone back about 2 years. I accept we lost Sturridge through injury but I don't accept we lost Luis we didn't lose him we sold him.
Was Brendan telling the owners last night that there player recruitment wasn't working.I have read all the different press reports and I am confused as to what has really happened in the two games and where do we go from here.
I was wondering if we have ever gone into a game expecting to be humiliated only to be relieved at a 1-0 defeat.

I wasn't expecting to be humiliated, I was expecting that it would be tough to get a result against the best team in the world at their stadium. and that's pretty much how it played out but it sounds as if it was there for the taking had we created a few more chances.

Can't believe that a liverpool side is almost rejoicing at being beaten, by only one goal. F***ing disgraceful.
We need to field our strongest side every game, taking into account, injuries and fatigue.

I don't think it was ever "there for the taking" mate. I think we defended well, but even when we went a goal down we never looked to push forward and score. It was a containment exercise rather than a plan for victory.

I always felt Madrid had more in the tank if they had needed it and if we had reacted to them scoring we would probably have left gaps in defence and lost by more.

Well it looked the side we fielded was better than our supposed "strongest" one eh?

Maybe he has childrens shin pads too, don´t no :D But yes, Sterling wears Coutinho´s boots and Moreno wears last season shorts.
