      GARY NEVILLE'S VERDICT

It’s ended the night in disappointment for them but I think that’s a step forward for Liverpool. You don’t go from being as bad as they were on Sunday, as low as they were, to straight away thinking they’re going to be fantastic.
It’s about small steps, and that was a small step tonight. They’re still in the Champions League, they’ve got Stoke, Leicester and Sunderland before they play the next game versus Basel and then against Manchester United.

They’ve got an opportunity to pick themselves up, thinking they’ve come away from there still in the Champions League. If they’d gone out tonight people would have been queuing up, probably including ourselves, to be very critical if Liverpool had lost. The pressure was building on the manager, building on the players, so I think that’s a small step forwards tonight and a good result for them.

He's a bloody Manc and he's more positive than half you lot.

Souness and Neville both talked some sense after tonight's game, particularly Souness. He was honest enough to say that we would have been far happier with a 1-0 win and a clean sheet but he offered up some good arguments for playing such a conservative line up to try and get us back to basics. Top punditry as usual from those three. All the more priceless for the look on their faces when Stelling asked if Lambert was a better option than Balotelli, the little look and wry smile from Carra as he glanced at Souness as if waiting for him to explode made me laugh out loud

Why is Gerrard, at 34, playing 90 minutes in every game he starts.

      Cheap rent :D

Second interview there was good, well said boss.

No issue with his or the players interviews.
Game was about turning things around.

      We didn't lose so it's a start.

Thought Lucas was fantastic tonight I hate to think what would have happened with Gerrard in that role.

PS why the F**k can't Rodgers see when Stevie is knackered!

I thought the energy of Henderson made a big difference for us in the first half, second half he seemed to drop off a little.

Sterling got in lots of great positions but didn't make the most of many of them, his pass for the goal was the biggest exception, superb ball in.

Gerrard did well first half looked shattered for the last 20 mins.

      Hardly noticed Allen

Lucas was Lucas, tidy on the ball didn't do much wrong

      Defence.... worrying

      Mignolet ... frightening

Brendan should have said "Let's be honest, we were sh!t". That way, everyone on here would have been happy.

He could have said ...." Well we weren't great but we worked hard and got the point we needed, I am sure we will improve over the next few games"

TBH, whilst our season is not restarted, a draw makes no difference to a win. We still need to beat basel and we will still get 3rd if we and ludo lose.

Also I know we are not happy right now, but whoever made the poll should have a rethink. Mignolet is still our player and Mignoshite is not something which we should be lowering ourselves to.

Better performance, obviously a solid keeper and back four and that's a simple, routine win but we don't have that. Gerrard made a massive difference when we had the ball, we were a lot more composed in the final third and Sterling looked brighter as a result. Hendo's energy was crucial as mentioned by others, did think he was feeling his illness a bit again towards the end though.

Defensively a mess again, Mignolet is becoming a massive worry now and the sad thing is he's not close to losing his place in the side really. Kolo showed the Madrid game was a one off, let's hope Sakho is back soon. And there's no way Moreno should have been marking that lad at the near post for the goal, should always be a good header of the ball there as a flick on usually leads to carnage and it proved so in the end.

At the end of the day though, that game should have been put to bed before the last 20. The Hendo and Sterling chances were massive.

Bit disrespectful whoever put the poll up. We get it, you don't like Mignolet, and he's been poor lately but he's a Liverpool player for fucks sake. Pull your head in and grow up

I except we did not lose, but to draw against this lot does not say much. TBH I feel we do not deserve to progress much further in the Champions League, perhaps we may even qualify for the Europa League more in line which we are playing at present.

First off, not a bad result. We didn't loose. We're still in with a chance of last 16. Minor miracle really.
We played in a different formation, so was going to be difficult.

Missed the first goal, tuned in on 5 mins!!
But even if we had hung on for a win, just thought it was a horrible game. To think that was a CL match, hard to believe. We were bad, so were they. Why a neutral would watch that, I don't know.
Sterling started poor, but grew into it - why was he taken off? Mistake from Migs again.  And SG in behind Rickie - for me, very poor from SG tonight, thought he showed why he can't play that position, why not take him off instead of Sterling near the end ?!?!

Balls up to Rickie and flick ons - one of our key ploys - it's sad, but that's were we're at just now.

Still, as said we're still in it. BR has that to cling to. But wasn't pretty. Good finish by Hendo though, and Rickie can take goals like that (but again some general play poor).

      Late. tired.  Nite.

Lucas was pick of the bunch for me with Sterling not far behind.

Sick of all the negative sh*te and we all know we still have major problems but looking forward to the Basel game and Anfield should be rocking.
