      KEWELL RETURNS FOR RESERVES
      Steve Hunter 25 October 2007

Harry Kewell will make his return from injury in Liverpool Reserves encounter with Newcastle United at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington tonight - a match you can watch live on LFC TV.

The Reds number seven hasn't kicked a ball since he played against Feyenoord in the Port of Rotterdam tournament in pre-season, and he will play up front for Gary Ablett's side tonight in the game which kicks-off at 7pm.

Sebastian Leto also starts for the Reds while Stephen Darby will captain the team because Jack Hobbs was on first team duty in Istanbul.

You can watch Kewell's comeback for the reserves on LFC TV's live coverage from 6.45pm.

In the build-up to the game join Liverpool FC TV's Matt Critchley who will be joined live in the studios by former reserve player John Durnin. We'll also catch up with the views of youngster Stephen Darby in an exclusive interview from Melwood.

LFC TV is available on SKY channel 448. Virgin channel 544 or via the official website's e-Season Ticket. Please note we are running a 'free night' on LFC TV tonight so you don't have to own the Setanta package to enjoy our coverage.

If you're planning on watching tonight's game online then please note the live streaming will be accessible via the LFC TV link on the console and not via the Live Match Coverage tab.

      The Liverpool team is

      David Martin
      Stephen Darby (captain)
      Emiliano Insua
      Martin Kelly
      Ronald Huth
      Damien Plessis
      Nabil El Zhar
      Jay Spearing
      Craig Lindfield
      Harry Kewell
      Sebastian Leto

      Subs':

      Jordy Brouwer
      Dean Bouzanis
      Daniel Pachecho
      Mikel San Jose
      Ray Putterill.

Good call - and good reminder to everyone about LFC.TV being free tonight.

Should we read anything in to Hobbs not playing? Lined up for the weekend?

More importantly are we running a book on what time Kewell will get stretchered off?

I'll have the 30-39 minutes slot please.

Am I the only person that can't see Kewell ever being fit enough to contibute to the team in any way, ever again? It seems that his old injuries are always being aggravated or he manages to collect new ones. Kewell is all about running, sprinting, twisting and turning and unless he gives up all of this (ie stop playing) he will not be able to stay fit for any meaningful length of time.

Does anyone here think that Kewell can seriously help us win the title this year. If he's match fit I would say yes but how long will that take and how long will it take for Benitez to give him a start

No you're not. Scouser10 will probably be putting him in charge of team fitness though.

1-0 Harry Kewell header! He's actually playing up front. Jack Hobbs isn't playing because he was with the 1st team in Istanbul last night, but I think he deserves a chance in the first team this season. I'm not to sure about putting him in against Arsenal though!

He never came out for the second half, the commentator said he looked to have taken a slight knock!

Played well tonight Kewell. Fair do's, it was a reserve game so he had a chance to exploit some space. But he showed that natural instinct to turn a player and have a go at goal. He took a knock about ten minutes before half time, but he was fine after it. I can imagine he was only penciled in to play 45 mins anyway. Took his headered goal well from Letos good corner. Kewell scoring a header and us scoring from a corner?!!! Weird.... ;)

      Watched the ressies last night...

Both Kewell and Leto had decent first halves. Kewell looks fit, but did he take another knock last night?

      Pacheco looks the biz too...

      Still not 100% on Insua.

I don't see anything wrong with what she said mate, it is natural given Kewell's injury record to have doubts if he's ever gonna make it back. Slagging him off is when people accuse him of feigning injury or not making an effort to get his fitness back, Reepicheep did neither.

I don't think Harry Kewell will ever be fit enough to get a run in our side and make any impact on our season. I don't think we will ever see the form he showed during some of his games when he was at Leeds. This is my opinion, I really do hope I'm proved wrong, but I see Harry as a waste of the wages Liverpool pay him week in and week out.

But don't forget this is a football forum for discussion, banter, bitching and moaning alike! Any bitching and moaning should be done here and in the ale house so that when we are inside the ground we only back our side and keep any negativity out of Anfield.

      Season           Apps  Goals

      2006 - 2007   2   1

      2005 - 2006   27   3

      2004 - 2005   18   1

      2003 - 2004   36   7

£5 million for him - he must be on at least £3 million a year - total cost roughly £19 million since hs joined.

That's £1.6 million for every goal he has scored in 4 years.

      Or £230,000 per appearance.

Even if he was Pele (which he clearly isn't) then clearly he has been arguably Liverpool's biggest ever waste of money.  I don't know how he has the conscience to continue picking up his salary I really don't.

Of course! If!!! He stayed fully match fit he'd give a very nice option on the left and also bring a goal threat.

One of the main reasons would be to justify some wages though.....

Unless he plays some blinding games in the next month - I think he will walk/pushed in Jan... that or the club doesn't get a penny.

I reckon Everton might come in for him in Jan... as rumours growing that Arteta to return to Spain (Atletico de Madrid) next season.

With all the injuries to the squad we'll need as much help as possible at the moment.

I'd welcome a fully fit Harry Kewel at the moment *fingers crossed*

Even if he was Pele (which he clearly isn't) then clearly he has been arguably Liverpool's biggest ever waste of money.  I don't know how he has the conscience to continue picking up his salary I really don't.

He may not have got a goal last night but set up Torres beautifully for the 2nd of the night & I consider it LFC's most important goal this season so far...waste of money? Nah I don't think so...
