Bournemouth 1:3 Liverpool, In game & post match discussion.
      Dec 17, 2014 06:32:22 pm

Brendan Rodgers has made three changes to his Liverpool line-up for their League Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth tonight.

Lucas Leiva, Lazar Markovic and Kolo Toure are brought into the starting XI for the clash with the Championship leaders at the Goldsands Stadium.

The trio replace Joe Allen, Glen Johnson and Alberto Moreno from the side that began Sunday's defeat by Manchester United.

Liverpool XI: Jones, Toure, Lovren, Skrtel, Lucas, Gerrard, Coutinho, Henderson, Lallana, Sterling, Markovic.

Substitutes: Mignolet, Lambert, Sakho, Moreno, Manquillo, Can, Borini.

We pay £20m for a winger, never play the guy, then put him at left wing back.

      But come on Reds. YNWA

Looks like 3 CB's with Hendo at RWB and Markovic at LWB. Coutinho, Sterling, and Lallana all given license to roam and attack at will.

Happy enough with this lineup. Just hope we bring lots of energy, press them high and hard, and move the ball quickly in attack. If we do these things then I'm certain we will ease into the semis.

So the formation is based on a 5-4-1. If both Lucas and Gerrard play DM it'll limit the movement somewhat which is a shame. Hopefully Gerrard plays further up the pitch and we can at least play some nice pacey passing moves.

Not holding my breath. Never like formations with three centre backs. There are very few situations where it is a tactical advantage, and a lot where it is a disadvantage. Rafa only used that formation in his career once for us...for about 10 minutes then he switched it to a 4-5-1 (against Newcastle one season...can't remember the year).

      Meh. Should win anyway.

      Here we go again !

Good to see Marko starting and that Borini is actually alive and well .

Also sucks that Mario suffers an injury after having his best 45 minutes as a red last match .

No Can. No striker. Jones. Lucas&SG in same side.
Allen gets rest which is fair enough.
And Markovic gets a good chance.
Could SG be playing as striker :)

Would be nice to get into the semis.

I thought Markovic would play up front, with Lallana working the flank, and Henderson on the other side.

oh well, wait and see I suppose.

Hoping for a very good performance from Markovic so he can hopefully settle his place in the team. Has shown promising enough signs, but we really need guys like him to start performing consistently.

63% on a sky poll saying there'll be an upset here tonight, cant blame them or argue against it. You could nearly argue there'd be an upset if we won 8)

Might be that the 3 CB's will split, leaving 2 wide, and one central, with Lucas in front covering.

A staggered central midfield with Gerrard in the hole, coutinho, Henderson and Lallana behind, and Sterling and Markovic playing more central, or dropping in from wide (rotating).

      Like this in defense:
                                                                           Jones
                                                    CB                      CB                  CB

      Like this in attack:
                                                                           Jones
                               CB                                           CB                                            CB
                                                                            Lucas
but obviously not as close to Jones ;D

I like that team apart from Lovren.

Glad to see Borini making the bench, think we'll win this comfortably. Strangely the match against United gave me some confidence, as long as we can keep them out (big ask with our defending) I think we'll score at least 2 probably 3 tonight.

It's only Bournemouth but there's a strange positivity I've felt since the United game, I feel we're about to turn a corner now that we've moved away from the stale crap.

      Come on Red Men!!
