      Today's captain

Starting XI: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Manquillo, Moreno, Lucas, Henderson, Lallana, Coutinho, Sterling

Subs v Swansea: Ward, Toure, Gerrard, Markovic, Balotelli, Lambert, Borini

Brendan Rodgers has opted to make four changes to his starting line-up for Liverpool's final clash of 2014 against Swansea City at Anfield this evening.

Simon Mignolet is restored to the team, coming in to replace Brad Jones, just as the Belgian did after 16 minutes of play in the Reds' Boxing Day victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Emre Can, who played the entire second half of that game as part of a three-man defence, takes the place of Kolo Toure from the start as he slots in alongside Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho.

Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo return to the side, replacing Lazar Markovic and Steven Gerrard, which means Jordan Henderson will captain the Reds from a more central midfield position in the 8pm kick-off.

Elsewhere, frontmen Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini all take their place on a strong substitutes' bench for the Barclays Premier League encounter.

      Lucas man-mark Sigurdsson.

Moreno and Manquillo vs Routledge and Dyer is a key battle to win.

Skrtel vs Bony is a worry.

      Fingers crossed.

Looks a sensible pick to me that. Both full backs ARE actually fullbacks (allegedly in Moreno's case) and whether we go 4-3-3 or 3-4-3, I think a rest will do Stevie good.

Team looks very attack minded, let's hope their heads in the game tonight. Could be big win if everyone clicks!
I would've been tempted to start Ward in goal, but Migs is going to prove me wrong tonight!

Big balls from the manager there.

What was it again? Too stubborn and too much ego to change things wasn't it?

Hope they've gad plenty of minutes together in training. Bit of s rosy starting them together for the first time in a game of this magnitude.
Brave selection, hope it pays off, can't deny the boss is going for it tonight.
Glad we're more attacking being at home. Still sticking with 2:1

Would like it to be a 4 at the back, Lucas sitting and then Hendo and Can given the freedom in front. Could quite easily be a 3 at the back again though.

Absolutely massive game this, lots of dropped points from teams above us and we simply have to win this one to start making up the ground.

      COME ON YOU REDS!

Hope he puts in a performance absolutely pointless playing him out wide he lacks creativity and can't beat his man.
In the middle he can be the engine and get the ball forward (not sideways or back) to the front line

Our team and bench are so random at times. A couple of weeks ago we had 3 full backs, 1 centre mid and 2 strikers on the bench; tonight we have 1 defender, 2 midfielders and 3 strikers. Quite like the look of the team though, seems debatable where Can will actually be playing but wouldn't surprise me if Brendan puts him out of position at centre back.

Hoping it's 4 in the back, but I get the feeling it will be 3. Otherwise, I'm fairly happy with the XI picked.

It's a solid team, would prefer to see Can in midfield as I don't think Henderson has been playing that well recently. Just as long as we get the win, as we cannot afford to drop anymore points.
