We really need to seal 5-year contracts for Jon Flanagan, Jordan Henderson and Jordon Ibe.

These three players are very important for the club going forward long term.

Flanagan is nowhere near the other 2 mentioned, and would be a squad player.

If he signs a new deal, good, if he doesn't, meh.

Flanno was a star last season, he has been sorely missed this year.

No, he wasn't, as far as I'm concerned.

A decent enough player, but he's being ridiculously over hyped on here.

I think we miss him to an extent Swab but agree on your original assesment.

One of those agree to disagree points. I think we have badly missed him this season.

Even if its just for his crunching tackles and ability to get the crowd going, from what Im reading on here the crowd needs some encouragement to sing and cheers instead of videoing on thie mobiles. ;D

The Scouse Cafu has been missed defensively, he's probably worse than Moreno going forward.

But yeah his tackling....... Remember that tackle on Milner last season when he almost cut him in half

At least he shows a desire to defend, a bit like carra loves a tackle, and his timing of tackles is pretty good.

I like Moreno, he is just raw thats the problem.

No offense lads, because I appreciate a good hard tackle as much as the next person, but there is too much emphasis on the physical side of the game in England, and that's going to be a problem for players like Flanagan if it's his main strength because slowly but surely it is being taken out of the game i.e. the tackle that puts ball and man in the stand ;)

Add to that he gets run past far too often, his positioning is very dodgy, he lacks pace and awareness and his technique isn't the best.
I love his commitment, and can't fault his attitude, but I doubt he'll become a top player.
I think we'll see him leave in the next couple of years and go the same way as Kelly.

Then we ned to sign a new RB, because Glen is leaving, Flanagan too it seems, only Manquillo is left there and he isn't anywhere Liverpool level. I still think Flano could do a good job there if he's given confidence and minutes. It is important for him to be injury-free, it's a pity that he had such a serious injury because in this season he could have improved much further and cemented a starting place in our team.

Kelly had the same problems with injuries.

Flanno will get at least another season, and norman wisdom will probably come back as well.

But we probably need a new expereinced RB to replace Glenda.

Most top teams have at least 2 players in every position, 3 if players are versatile, Flanno has proven he can play both LB & RB. so he will stay.

I wouldn't waste any money on it though if it isn't there mate.

I'd be happy to have Flanno and Wisdom there if it meant getting more money to get goals in the side.

If we can rely on those 2 agreed, suppose we have played others as wing backs at times, with the 3-4-3.

      Yep.

By some accounts we will have £30M to spend.

I'd be amazed if anyone would want any of that spent on the defense.

      True.
The manager, rather than the players, is the main problem when it comes to our defense.
What he wants them to do is pretty difficult, especially if the midfield give the ball away, and we remain easy meat for the long ball with 2 split CB's and a DM playing a very high line, and FB's playing high up the pitch.

I would happily concede the same amount of goals as this season if I knew we were going to buy someone to put the ball in the net mate.

We will always be open to conceding goals under Brendan even if we buy more defenders.

This is one of the problems I have with BR's philosophy.
The best managers in football have always built their teams from the back, and there's a reason for this.

During that 10 game run, we seemed to be solid, I was very happy, but thats probably the longest we have gone with a settled defence and settled holding MF.
