I'll eat my and everyone else's hat on here if we pay £67.7 million (which I read was his buyout clause fee) for a player. Just think about it, that would be more than twice the amount we'd paid for our currently most expensive purchase ever. Then wages a player of his stature would command on top of that? Under FSG? Never going to happen.

And if it were for a player it wouldn't be this one.

67.7m is more than twice as much as 35? You may need a new calculator. I agree though, we won't pay it.

Would only appeal to me if it came at no more than 15-20m and even that would stretch it. One of those players with a very impressive CV who I believe would struggle to adapt to the PL. Watched quite a few games of his at Napoli and just don't buy in to the hype. Very wasteful in front of goal and at times for a lad of his experience and pedigree misses a lot of the bread and butter stuff.

I agree he is a bit wasteful in front of goal but a hard worker with good movement.

I suspect like last year Rodgers expects his wide forwards and midfield to create the bulk of chances so what is needed is a clinical finisher. Maybe why we are after Benteke who may have a lot of faults but he knows how to find the back of the net.

      Interesting.

Doubt it but, still think we are in all the way for benteke.

All credible reporters who are usually leaked info from the club, Pearce, Barrett, Joyce  have said Benteke is our primary target so everything else is either a smokescreen to force Villa's hand or more likely BS.

Let's see if Villa are linked to any forwards that will give us a clue of their willingness to do business or as I see it they will hold out for the full £32.5M

We'd need to add Borini, Lambert, Allen, Lucas, Enrique and anyone else we're trying to offload, plus half a dozen of our best Academy players and even then it wouldn't be enough.

Maybe better to offer Raheem instead, if he's going to go I'd rather it be to a Club outside the PL  ;D

We won't be signing a 27 year old Higuain for big money.

milner over 5yrs is costing close to 32 mil in wages alone so its still a small, small very small chance also we've been interested in Bacca who is nearly 29. I think this player would excite all the fans but like you say i'm not sure FSG will pay 42mil for a 27 year old which is a shame as you could still get a good 5years out of him and if his goals makes us a CL side during them 5yrs his fee and wages are worth it. just hope we sort striker out soon

I'd love Higuain here. I'm sure we all would. But we won't sign him so this thread is stupid - let's be serious.

Milner was on a free which gave us a bit of rope. His wages echo what he is worth anyway in my opinion. He may not be to everybodys taste but he is an established English international with premiership and champions league experience, he has won medals. We don't have many players like that in our squad and with Gerrard leaving and City offering him higher wages than what we were, then we are paying Milner what we are.

Bacca would have cost just over 20m and we would have paid him probably half the wages we would Higuain.

Higuain turns 28 at the end of the year. Would cost at least 40m and I'd imagine his wages would be around the 200k mark. FSG won't be touching him with a barge pole.

This is why we'll never get anywhere. Is he better than what we've got? YES. Will he score more goals than anybody else in our team? YES. Is he lazy, immobile and inconsistent? NO. I wouldn't pay the moon for him but I'd spend a bit.

I wasn't. He fits in with the FSG policy.

FSG have paid big money on players but they tend to go for players who are young who won't demand ridiculous wages.

Higuain is almost 28, will cost around 50m and will probably demand 200k a week wages.  So we won't be signing him. Pointless thread.
