      Aston Villa V Liverpool 17/1/15 15.00 ko Pre-match thread
      Jan 16, 2015 05:07:24 pm

After a nice little run recently we take on Villa at Villa Park tomorrow, unbeaten in the last five matches having collected 11 points from the last 15 available, with Sterling back and Sturridge back in training (although I can't see him taking any part tomorrow) things are beginning to look up for us, a recall from Derby on loan for Jordan Ibe too, will he feature or be on the bench tomorrow? Gerrard looks like he will miss out through a knock, so Raheem to take his place probably.

Revenge would be sweet after they took all 3 points at Anfield in September, so hoping for a nice little win here.

Might be the same team as against Sunderland but with Raheem replacing Gerrard, unless Rodgers decides to give Lovren another chance which might see Lucas missing out with Can and Hendo in midfield.

Balotelli to replace Borini in the second half.

Might be an idea to give both Lucas and Gerrard a rest with more difficult games coming up. I should image we'll see Ibe at some point during this match as well. I'd be surprised if Raheem played 90 minutes with Chelsea coming up.

Raheem has just had two weeks sunning it in the Caribbean so no reason to suggest he won't play the 90.

Here is a hope this game will actually be played on the pitch rather than behind the scenes.
4:1, 4:2, 5:1 or 5:2 Liverpool. Cant see Mignolet keeping two clean sheets in a row - despite his improved performance vs black cats.

Gone for a 2  1 win for the Reds, dropped a real clanger last week by putting a 1  1 draw against Sunderland.

Interesting. Rest Gerrard, Lucas and maybe even Skrtel Id say?! Hendo the skipper with Manquillo as vice-captain? We really need young guns against these. Lets start preparation for the next U21 season early.

I genuinely have no idea about who's fit, who isn't, who's on holiday, who's drugged up in the medical room etc. so aside from Borini, (Sterling to come in) if everybody is fit from the Sunderland game then they should start.

Aston Villa have been utterly dreadful lately but I'm not taking them lightly, 2-0 to the red men ;) I'm predicting the unthinkable with consecutive  clean sheets! Can't wait for this game.

Few rumours that Borini will play again and Raheem is in for Gerrard.

Villa have struggled lately but no doubt we'll struggle to handle Benteke so we've got to be a bit more clinical tomorrow. Going for a nervy 3-2 win.

Yeah rumours suggesting Borini up front ie same team as last week but Raheem replacing Gerrard.

I would prefer Raheem instead of Borini and Ibe coming in.

True. But he does have more goals against Villa than any other team in the league. If he's 100 percent fit, I'd start him for this one. (I had almost forgot about his hamstring tightness last week.)

Hogging is part of his game as he's a dribbler. It's his decision making that I find is his weak point, however, he'll improve by playing games and gaining experience :)

I think playing him deeper and more centrally will allow him to be more creative and make better decisions than if he played higher up the pitch. I feel when Sterling plays higher up the pitch, he has the pressure of scoring, whereas having a striker in front, I think there's less pressure to score thus allowing him to create and have more freedom.

      I think we'll see this;

                                       Migs
                        Lovren     Skrtel      Sakho
        Markovic      Henderson      Can        Moreno
                           Lallana             Coutinho
                                      Sterling

Really good lineup mate but Lallana is not ready yet. So it will be Lucas holding with Can pushing forward on the right wing instead of Adam. Otherwise, a great lineup. One mistake at most.

      Mignolet
      Can - Skrtel - Sakho
      Markovic - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno
      Sterling - Coutinho
      Borini

Starting Borini upfront will mean Raheem could make those runs past the CF instead of doing that himself. Weimann-Agbonlahor vs Markovic-Moreno should be interesting. Skrtel always struggles against a big CF and in Benteke, I really have my worries. Going for 1-2.. YNWA!

It's one of them; I think Sterling has been given a license to be ball greedy this season, he's a great talent but sometimes when a pivotal player is out, you get to see more players shine because they aren't relying (or have been told to by the manager) on one player.
It happens when Gerrard doesn't play or hasn't played in the past, we've won in style and the likes of Henderson has been a boss on the pitch.
I really don't think we should build a team to have Sterling as the Luis Suarez or whatever, he is a cog, play maker, simple as.

I can see Ballo or Borini getting some game time today - more so Ballo to be honest.

Villa have, for a few seasons played well against us, but I can see 3 points coming our way in a drab game this afternoon with little being offered by either team. Hopefully who ever plays up top get in amongst the goals and kick starts their season.

Don't see a cracker to be honest, Villa are awful to watch so negative, no doubt we'll make benteke look like Pele again.

Not a side we find easy to break down,we seem to get caught out and get frustrated by their style of play, but still I think we'll get the result we desire.

I'd love to be confident but we can't beat Villa to save our lives. 1-1 i'll say.

Usually one of the away games I got a ticket in the home end for, but work hasn't let me get to many games this season.  Can't moan at the overtime though, it's needed.

Expecting a very dull game, 0-1, goal scored just before half-time when Villa switch off.

Villa cant score to save their lives at the moment. Lets just throw everything at them and get an early goal to open the game up.

Let's be honest here, Villa are f***in sh*t,
Cannot see nothing other than a convincing Reds win,
It has been said we're due to give someone a real f***in battering, well, I may as well be first and say it's going to happen TODAY,
Yes folks this is the day we hand out a proper pasting,
Villa are desperate, despite having 3/4 decent individuals their confidence is akin to shark sh*t,
They couldn't score in a whore house (see my ex) with a jonny & a fiver, but probably will against us,

                     Mignolet
                Can Skrtle Sakho
         Markovic               Moreno
                        Lucas
             Hendo.         Coutinho
                       Gerrard
                 Sterling

Bench; Ward, Manquillo, Lovren, , Rossiter , Ballotelli, Borini, Ibe

Love to see Ibe come on last twenty and run at a tiring Villa back line, Can pushed forward to replace Ste, Manquillo on as RWB & push Markovic forward,

      1-3 Mighty Reds

Sterling twice & Ste bagging the goodies , Skrtle og
