      Mignolet

      Can  Skrtel  Sakho

      Manquillo  Lucas  Henderson  Moreno

      Markovic  Sterling  Coutinho

This. Now is not the time to get complacent and think we can drop anyone. Gerrard to come in round 70 for markovic as a no.10 role

Few rumours that Borini will play again and Raheem is in for Gerrard.

Villa have struggled lately but no doubt we'll struggle to handle Benteke so we've got to be a bit more clinical tomorrow. Going for a nervy 3-2 win.

Yeah rumours suggesting Borini up front ie same team as last week but Raheem replacing Gerrard.

I would prefer Raheem instead of Borini and Ibe coming in.

Am I the only one that wants Stevie to start? Always seems to score vs Villa.

Really? His record is good, but the 0-1 result in Sept puts the always to bed. Think he may be a sub.

      Never over confident lately.
Even when we start well, Brendan seems to do his best to unbalance the side with his strznge subs and we end up hanging on.

Raheem just has to start (IMO) - our play is predictable without him. He starts, we win.

I'd go as far as to say, if we don't start with Sterling; we win. Why? He hogs the ball and we are to reliant on the cocky guy. Forget all this crap about resting him lets save him for Easter or whatever.
He doesn't pass the ball and is selfish.

Last time you started a pre-match thread, we won and were top of the league, so no pressure then.  :D

We'll need to go some to get on top of the league RP ;-) xxx

Thanks MsG for making the thread! +1

      ----------

I'd go with the same XI that beat Sunderland, but drop in Sterling for Borini. Villa is one of our bogey teams, so 3 points here would be brilliant. Don't care how we play as long as we win this one.

No worries TRM, thought it was getting a bit close to the game...

True. But he does have more goals against Villa than any other team in the league. If he's 100 percent fit, I'd start him for this one. (I had almost forgot about his hamstring tightness last week.)

Hogging is part of his game as he's a dribbler. It's his decision making that I find is his weak point, however, he'll improve by playing games and gaining experience :)

I think playing him deeper and more centrally will allow him to be more creative and make better decisions than if he played higher up the pitch. I feel when Sterling plays higher up the pitch, he has the pressure of scoring, whereas having a striker in front, I think there's less pressure to score thus allowing him to create and have more freedom.

      I think we'll see this;

                                       Migs
                        Lovren     Skrtel      Sakho
        Markovic      Henderson      Can        Moreno
                           Lallana             Coutinho
                                      Sterling

Really good lineup mate but Lallana is not ready yet. So it will be Lucas holding with Can pushing forward on the right wing instead of Adam. Otherwise, a great lineup. One mistake at most.

      Can - Skrtel - Sakho
      Markovic - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno
      Sterling - Coutinho
      Borini

Starting Borini upfront will mean Raheem could make those runs past the CF instead of doing that himself. Weimann-Agbonlahor vs Markovic-Moreno should be interesting. Skrtel always struggles against a big CF and in Benteke, I really have my worries. Going for 1-2.. YNWA!

It's one of them; I think Sterling has been given a license to be ball greedy this season, he's a great talent but sometimes when a pivotal player is out, you get to see more players shine because they aren't relying (or have been told to by the manager) on one player.
It happens when Gerrard doesn't play or hasn't played in the past, we've won in style and the likes of Henderson has been a boss on the pitch.
I really don't think we should build a team to have Sterling as the Luis Suarez or whatever, he is a cog, play maker, simple as.

I can see Ballo or Borini getting some game time today - more so Ballo to be honest.

Villa have, for a few seasons played well against us, but I can see 3 points coming our way in a drab game this afternoon with little being offered by either team. Hopefully who ever plays up top get in amongst the goals and kick starts their season.

Not a side we find easy to break down,we seem to get caught out and get frustrated by their style of play, but still I think we'll get the result we desire.
