      Pedro Chirivella (Liverpool > Nantes)
      Jan 26, 2015 02:12:56 pm
Another youngster without a player thread.  Pedro had a difficult start at the Club due to work permit issues and was kicking his heels for months before he was able to start in competitive matches.  He's started to make his mark this season with some accomplished performances in the heart of the u18's midfield.

Pedro joined Liverpool's Academy in the summer of 2013 after moving from Valencia.

The holding midfielder started out at the Spanish outfit's youth set-up at the age of seven and remained there until U16 level.

Pedro, who was the U16 Spanish international captain throughout 2012-13, operates in the classic No.6 midfield role. The youngster possesses fantastic vision and can read the game brilliantly.

He's a fine passer, who is constantly picking up the pieces in midfield and keeping the young Reds ticking over.

Much of the play goes through Chirivella - and he's a player who the Academy coaches are looking forward to watching develop at the club.

Chirivella & Rossiter as our future midfielders? It'll be like having Alonso & Hamann in midfield :D

Be a few years yet before they're running our midfield mate, let's hope everyone's patient enough for it to happen.

That's if we can fend off Real and their grubby little mitts. Apparently they've been interested for a while. Hopefully, their interest in him has waned since their recent acquisitions of Odegaard and Silva.

I'd put my house on him never being our first choice midfielder, and that's not down to his ability

I wouldn't be surprised. In fact, I'm questioning why we are wasting money on talented foreigner kids, not as if they get a proper run or chance to prove themselves in the first team.

Personally, I'm in favour of our academy keeping the youth scouting & nurturing in UK only than for us to spend millions on a talented foreign kid that's never gonna make it, I just don't see the point anymore.

He looks a season away from being physically ready by the looks of him. You can see the step up Rossier has made in he last 12 months in terms of his build and strength, this lad will need to do the same I suspect, particularly given the position he plays.

He's there on merit Brian and it's well deserved too.  He made the transition from u18s to u21s seemlessly last season, well within 6 months really and although he probably won't get as many chances as Rossiter this season that doesn't mean he's not good enough.

I'd say he's a near perfect Brendan type midfielder so I doubt he'll get overlooked.

Whether it's a ball playing DM or a DLPM, a specialist playing makes a huge difference. Still surprised at how underrated they are here.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC0OY5u21HI

Really can not see Can, Hendo or Milner play like this, and would be such a waste of their talents for them to play as a DM.

Kind of like a halfback, parlance you may remember from your days watching a 2-3-5 and the WM formation brought about by Herbert Chapman of Arsenal.  ;)

Some may say he is a DLPM but i'd say he's more of a right sided trequartista or an enganche. May develop in to a raumdeuter in the future, though.

i like him more than Can as a CDM.

He has better ball control and can use both feet. So he won't lose the ball so easily when teams put him under pressure.

I feel like Can is so reliant on one foot that if teams target him like they did Gerrard when he played in that position he will lose the ball often or get fouled a lot.

Chirivella has to develop physically. But lots of skinny players play in the league to im sure he'll be fine.

Anyone know how he's doing in the youth setups? Was pretty impressed with him during his couple of preseason cameos.

Quality debut for him last night, played some great passes and looked so comfortable on the ball.

I think him and Rossiter can co exist in the same team as a midfield 2. Both are defensive yet composed and very good short passers. One is better than the other in defense, the other is better than the other in passing. Very balanced 2 and a match made in Heaven I reckon!

Thanks for posting the highlights clip.  Interesting to look at.

Almost every ball went forwards and it's where he is looking as soon as he received it.  Good lad.
