If a youngster has exceptional talent, he'll likely only need one or two years out on loan (if any) before consistently breaking into a first team squad like Liverpool's before the age of 21. The reality is, many of our youngsters are good, but they're just not exceptional enough to make the grade.

Continuing to send them out on loan is not a waste though. It allows Championship and lower PL sides to see their potential value to them, one that meets our valuation, allowing us to then recover some of our academy costs. And there is always a genuine chance a late bloomer is uncovered.

At the moment, I only see Ben Woodburn, Rhian Brewster, and Curtis Jones as the ones who may break through in the foreseeable future. Wilson will probably need to have a great year to not find himself sold off to fund other transfers in the next year or two.

But if there was a Pulisic or Bailey coming through our ranks, I have little doubt they wouldn't be constantly loaned out to develop. We just don't have that talent, in my opinion.

The last player I can recall we loaned out to have any real impact on the first team was Danny Murphy and even at that we signed him then loaned him back the following season.

Was also loaned back to Crewe as a punishment and to sort himself out, Danny was constantly on the ale in town.

As for Kent, I  just don't honestly see him making it here.

I remember watching a couple of pregames last summer and really liking him as someone who was very direct and went straight at defenders and run / dribble past them so was kind of bummed when he went out on loan and did not do well there. As we keep getting better and better i don't know that i see a spot for him in the future.

Anyone been following this lad. Think his loan at Rangers has gone very well.

Well worth us taking another look this summer.

Scored a good goal against Celtic. Scored quite a few belters this season. I remember when we played Bayern in pre-season and he completely ripped them apart when he came on, would happily see him get given a bit of a look in next season but from what I've seen, Rangers are going to look at making his move permanent and the player seems to want that too.

Yeah, thought that might happen.  If he's found his level that he can excel at then its a tough choice to do that or come and be a sub at Liverpool - especially at the start of your career.

On a side note, I watched the highlights of the Celtic - Rangers on BBC last night and was quite surprised how poor the standard of football was in comparison to the LFC-Spurs game earlier in the day.  Rangers might be half decent if any of them could pass to one of their own teammates.  Their goalkeeper makes Mignolet look like the world number one and that Morelos lad makes Suarez look like an altar boy.  Kent should have actually been sent off as well.

Ha I literally just saw that, to be fair he deserves player of the season for doing what so many should have already done to Scott Brown.

he looks settled and is playing well so really pleased for the lad. I think sometimes these young lads forget to enjoy what they are doing and how well they get paid for doing it. Rangers is a great place for him.

Just missed a sitter in the Europa League final to win it for Rangers.

      30 seconds left before penalties.
