Is there really any need to keep playing Sterling as a striker? What a waste.

I agree, especially when we have either Sturridge or Balo.

I suspect Sturridge may have a knock or Rodgers protecting him due to having a full 90mins on thursday.

Lovren and skrtel partnership makes me very nervous again. Don't care if Lovren has a worldy, sakho better stroll back into this team when fit. Don't do it Brendan.

Tough team to play and beat. Defense has me very worried now. All that confidence rebuilt could be undone very quick if we fall back to our pre sakho starting calibre

The black/grey kit today, when was the last time we wore that, and what was the outcome?

Sturridge was rubbish last two games but he needs games to get back fit. Doesn't make sense not starting him.

Come on Redmen. Let's just keep the momentum going. Not the strongest team but i'm guessing he doesn't want to push Sturridge too hard too soon. Hendo and Allen are going to have their work cut out this afternoon, i just hope that it's Hendo picking up Wanyama.

We could sneak this 2-1 i'm thinking but we have to win that central midfield battle. Big game needed from Lovren too, gutted Sakho is out but a £20 million replacement should be up to the job.

I think this game could have Ibe written all over it. This lad is going to be better than Sterling.

Tough tough game requiring tough players.

      Let's do them.

Big blow having Sakho out, no better time for Lovren to step up and prove everyone wrong!

Suprised no Sturridge but after the length of time out, can understand it but would prefer him on the bench Thursday instead of today.

Massive game this! Come on you Mighty Redmen!!!!!

Bold moves with the wing backs and Lovren behind which is a massive game for him with added pressure of it back at saints will see if he has the minerals. What i will say about Lovren is he offers more when we have corners than Sakho

So Brendan carries on the tradition of having 3 defenders and 3 strikers on the bench with ZERO midfielders, lovely :). Something tells me we'll be in the market for a couple of them come the summer.

I don't like the idea of us playing without a striker, Sterling best have his shooting boots on today.

I just hope the line up has Koeman as surprised as us.

Ultimately not a bad team. Gutted we're missing Sakho, but Lovren has shown improvement in his recent cameos, big test for him here. As much as I would have liked to see Can in midfield, it was inevitable the it would be Henderson and Allen. They'll be key to this game, control the midfield and we should dominate.

As for the attack, there is an abundance of attacking threat there, just not too many goals. Hopefully our recent form has some confidence instilled in the lads and they'll take their chances. To be honest I thought this game was made for Balotelli to start! Notgetting into the penalty crap, I think Rodgers has him wired as our super sub at the moment, so I expect to see himself and Sturridge feature. I just hope he doesn't give Lambert the sympathy run out?

I'm still confident we can get the job done here. Results have gone our way so far this weekend, we need to capitalise. A 2-0 win for the reds Sterling and Henderson (Penalty won by Balotelli  >:D )

For our biggest game of the season so far I must admit I'm not too happy with the team we're putting out. That's not to say we wont win because our form at the moment is imperious but there's a few things that make me nervous.

Lovren - I'd have started Toure over him if Sakho has taken a knock. Time for him to take his chance though.
Allen - I'd have started virtually anyone over him, he's been poor even when we're playing well.
Strikers - Playing Sterling on his own after the good performance by Balotelli recently seems strange, whether it has anything to do with penalty-gate we'll not know but I'd have given Balo the nod for this. Sterling would have dropped into Coutinho's position.

Hopefully though Brendan has it spot on and we give these a pasting, any victory will do though in what could prove to be an extremely pivotal game in our season.

      Come on lads!!

I'm not sure I'd have started Balotelli either to be honest. Not against a team that's going to press high. My thing though is today was not the day to rest Sturridge. That was Thursday.

Yeah I'd have been happy with that too. Southampton have the meanest defence in the prem, I just think we'll need a little more than the young fella ploughing a lone furrow. Who knows maybe a bit of Ibe magic might be enough.
