      Fixture Congestion
      Apr 19, 2015 04:03:31 pm
It's been a hot topic for years now. Coming up to Christmas and New Year the fixtures get too much. The cup starts and the league games start to add up for players.

But why are we not thinking about moving the congestion to the start of the season?

      Think about it.

No cups in the way for most teams because they'll all be in the early qualifying stage. Players at the start of the season are always struggling for match fitness... So why not give them more matches to play?

Also from an advertising point of view, the quick start to the season with match after match in August, September and through to October could be known as the "Rush to Winter" where the fixtures would calm and a break can be had?

Looks like a win-win to be, players get match fitness quickly at the start of the season and a rest when they need it at the half way point. Am I missing a trick here?

There's no competing with a month like december. It's just the most profitable month, for obvious reasons. In the end, it's all about money, which is why it probably will never change.
